The Spurs aren't joking around

Post#1 » by DorfonCeltics » Tue Jun 23, 2009 5:49 pm

They just acquired Richard Jefferson from the Bucks for basically expiring junk. They are dead serious about competing for a championship next year knowing they only have a couple of years left. If they are healthy they are going to be a tough team even for LA.

Yeah I first heard from Celts17Pride. Chat Ford was in the middle of a chat and told everyone he was getting a call from a GM.

Hopefully they stay healthy and challenge the Lakers over in the west. Even though it would be great to have a Boston/LA finals I'd much rather face the Spurs. We can't take any chances of them getting another one.

Very true, solid mvoe for them, with that said, I will try to steer this into how it effects the celtics (maybe we can avoid an OT tag, haha).

Anyway Milwaukee is clearly doing this just to shed salary. You think they buy out Bowen, Thomas, or Oberto?

Oberto is young and fairly decent, so I'll guess they hold on to him, but what does a team like the bucks need Bowen or Thomas for. Does big Kurt have anything left in the tank as a backup? I almost thought he retired already, haha, I guess not .... ?

As far as Bowen, I would guess he can be had for cheap either bought out and signed (probably going to happen with him going back to the spurs... although not many minutes for him there now with Manu and R Jeff, both being high minutes demanding wings) or traded for. I would give our second rounder to the Bucks for Bowen. I hated him when he was here, couldnt shoot 3's at all, hadnt developed his killer defense. Now he does both, and now we have a need for him on a good playoff team.

If I were him I would rather come back to the C's and be Pierce's backup, than go back to the Spurs and fight for minutes. He could be our lengthy defense oriented SF that can shoot the 3 ball.

Cut him lose Milwaukee....

Good point about Bowen Ricky. I'd say there's a very good chance that the Bucks buy him out and he becomes a FA. He makes $4 mil this year so he's probably be able to get above the vet min in this free agent market. He's not going to be able to sign with the Spurs for 30 days. Do the C's have their LLE to offer this year or was that used on Eddie?

This definitely ups the ante for all contenders. Good thing the Spurs are in the West.

So do they keep Manu on the bench, do they flipflop him and catfish Mason? How long before Sheed dashes our hopes and signs in SA?

My recollection was that we split part of the MLE between Tony and Eddie, but maybe that was the LLE. I cant remember exactly, anyone?

Either way, he is the exact type of veteran that could really bolster our bench. He is much more valuable to us than he is to the Bucks.

'With the 58th pick in the... wait, hold on... we have a trade, the Boston Celtics trade the 58th pick in this year's draft to the Milwaukee Bucks for the rights to Bruce Bowen"

Wishful thinking, but considering how few players succeed that get picked that late, I would be very happy if Bowen was the piece we added on draft night.

Imagine if they got Sheed with their MLE and have Bonner coming off the bench. The make-up of the NBA is going to be very different next year. You could have 5-6 absolutely stacked teams. The way everyone is freeing space for 2010 has created this massive disparity of talent among the elite teams and worst teams. The bad teams like Oklahoma, Minny, Milwaukee are all really young teams without any max contracts. The C's, Lakers, Spurs, and Orlando(with TurkeyGlue's extension) all have 3 and maybe 4 max contracts and are loaded with talent. It's just a strange byproduct of the Lebron/Wade/Bosh phenomena.

If the Bucks were to cut Bowen loose, then why do I have the feeling that he'd just head back to the Spurs?

I wouldn't be a fan of the Cs picking him up. Dude is much too old, and he doesn't get the respect from the referees that he used to, thus making his defense less effective. And personally, I hate that guy. Can't say I have much respect for guys who attempt to injure other players.

Let's just hope not. I just hope this trade gets Danny feeling his Wheaties. He can't let some other team out do him! :D

When Ray Allen hates you, there's something wrong with you. Look up the video of Chris Paul punches Bowen. At 0:41, Bowen looks like he might be trying to rape Paul.

We don't need the Spurs retreads. They only looked okay because they were on the Spurs. Bowen in particular was basically just a hustling dirty player who turned that into a reputation for great defense. He is like the Rip of D..

I wont disagree with what most people are saying, and I admitted I hated him myself when he was a celtic, but lets keep in mind I am not suggesting using part of the MLE. For the LLE or a veteran minimum signing, we could do alot worse for our bench than Bowen.

We want someone to guard tall athletic 3's (check), to get under the skin or Lebron etc. (check), to play some energy minutes off the bench (check), and to nail an occasional 3 (check). Oh, and did I mention we want all this and dont want to dip into the MLE (which would be better used on a backup C or PG).

In my opinion if he gets cut, he is a perfect veteran minimum signing. He'll be cheap, wont command many minutes (that arent a lot behind PP anyway), and fills a clear need.

Sign him for the mimimum, sign Birdman for MLE, sign Marbury back for LLE... wishful thinking, but:

Rondo/Marbury
Allen/House
Pierce/Bowen
KG/Powe (when back)/Scal
Perk/Birdman

Keep the corps intact, add some contributing pieces, cruise to #18, haha.

As far as Ray Allen etc, all hating him. I think thats great. He is the exact kind of guy you hate when he is on the other team, but love when he is on your own team. He ruffles feathers, gets under peoples skin, and plays aggressive D at the 3 position. We could do a lot worse.

Do people really think we'd get more out of Dahntay Jones? I dont. Just my opinion.

Milw just giving players away....There MUST be more teams out there willing to deal.....This is the kind of deal Ainge needs to hook up---not trading our Star players...Trade Scal and TA to Sac for Nocioni...

You see...they are keeping Ginobili, Parker and Duncan..while our stupid asses keep wanting to trade Ray and Rondo for a **** draft pick or some ****...I hope Danny is thinking the same way that SA's GM is thinking. Stack this team up Danny Boy.. :)

I'm fully expecting Rasheed to sign with SA now---he can actually START for them--not us....and of course Bowen will be bought out, and return to SA....Duncan has been carrying that team on his back the past 2 seasons---they're finally serious about getting him some real help........................Now, Danny has to do MORE than get us a Mikki Moore type.
