If there's a food rider in there, BBD will sign...
In all seriousness, as long as he doesn't get overpaid, I'd like to have him back...

I'll be very happy if the celtics get big baby back. With him powe and KG, the celtics have atleast one postion with reasonable and quality depth.

We won't have Powe for a long time...the knee rehab will take a while...

Honestly a front court of Baby, Powe, and Scal (after KG, of course) is awful...it killed us this year. We need more TALENTED depth...

Cs need some size up front. Though call me crazy this offer makes it seem more likely that we are moving Rondo. I mean before the C's didn't have "time" to give Rondo an extension right? But suddenly they have time for BBD?
Maybe they think they can get good value with BBD - and not so with what Rondo wants. Davis IMHO is not good enough to earn the kind of minutes he did last year. I like him as deep bench though. Right now he would be in the running as a regular rotation guy - so I think we need another backup big to push him back a slot..
I think they intend to dump scal in some offseason deal. Scal is largely redundant with BBD - especially if BBD develops a three (which is something he should strongly consider). I know I know PFs should shoot from the inside right? Not when you are short, have short arms and are carrying too much bulk to be a great leaper.
Doc loves the idea of a 3 point shooting "big" - so it could be his ticket to a long and succesful career..

BBD is an unrestricted free agent this summer because he didn't want to sign a 3 year deal when we drafted him. Rondo is still on his rookie deal for another season and they know they'll have to pay out the ass to keep him next offseason. It's not having enough time, they just don't want to extend him before gauging his value.

Davis would be excellent as a 4th big. If you can get him for somewhere around $3 million per you're doing well.

Comparing giving Baby the qualifying offer as an RFA to not giving Rondo a big extension when he's not even an RFA yet is a pretty bad comparison.
They better have had the time for Baby, because if they didn't extend this qualifying offer, they lose his rights and he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
This "offer" is barely news. It was 100% obvious all along that they'd give Baby the qualifying offer; the real question is what will they do if someone gives him an offer sheet and they actually have to face giving him significant money?

I hear ya - that's possible. But it sure seems to me they are shopping him. I don't believe all those reporters are just making up stuff. A couple weeks ago I would have agreed with you but right now..
I don't get the feeling they want to extend him at all..

Definitely. I like Powe (and BBD I guess), but they aren't the ideal backup-types for the starters. Not having length killed the C's last year.

You are crazy lol. The Celtics have to handle Baby ASAP because he is a FA. While Rondo is still under contract so their is no rush. The Cs are going to focus on FA and trades first. Then talk extension if it makes sense.
Now, I am not discounting that the Cs are thinking about moving Rondo. But, I certainly don't think this news about Big Baby is an indicater of anything

I like Powe and Baby, but I feel both of them have reached their potential in the NBA, although Baby might develop a bit more (improve is shot even more)...but they would be 8th and 9th men off any other team's bench...we need height and TALENT...

I'm fine with Davis coming back, provided a contract is appropriate for what I see his role as. Which is backup at the 4/5 - emergency starter in case of injury, but never positioned to be the full-time starter.

He's ok, but we better not be paying much for him. There are a lot of players to choose from who would give their right nut to play with KG and Paul.

Just keep them away from Reggie Evans, who seems to like grabbing them!

Yep, it's an entirely deceptive headline, the headline make us thing that it will be a legit contract offer, not the qualifying option...the qualifying option is basically just the first step, it only means they are considering keeping him at the right price...
