All of the recent smoke regarding Rondo to Memphis makes no sense to me unless Ainge is enamored with Rubio and believes that he is a 'special' cornerstone player. That is the only justification I can think of for getting rid of a young improving top 5 point guard on a team that is a championship contender. Rubio seems like the only prospect in this draft (excluding Griffin) who has that kind of potential. He also seems like an Ainge type of player in that he is extremely bright and has elite court vision and passing skills. Don't forget, Ainge was responsible for drafting Steve Nash when with Phoenix whom Rubio is often compared with.

Lets follow the trail of rumors...
1. Boston supposedly offered Kendrick Perkins to Memphis for the number 2 pick in the draft...Wallace wants Rondo and Boston says no
2. Minnesota inquires into what it would take to get #2 and is told they need to acquire another lottery pick. They do so and Ainge offers up Rondo before the deal is consumated with Minny.

The deal may be a larger combination of the two Rumors with the principles being Rondo for the the #2. If this is indeed the case then Rubio must be one hell of a player....I guess we will find out tomorrow

Rubio is not the target. Nice try but Rubio is not the target. I don't understand why this kid is high on teams list. I think there are 5 pgs in this draft better then him.

In the interview today, Ainge listed Tyreke Evans as the top pg prospect and saying he could be a special player. He said Rubio is a few years away from contributing. So if we somehow trade for a pick, I think it's for Tyreke Evans.

You've probably never seen Rubio play a whole game. So what makes you such an expert? In fact no one on this board except the people from Spain have seen him. Thus nobody on this board knows how good he really is. I trust Danny's judgement whether he trades for him or not.

....Dwade said he was going to be "phenomenal" after playing against him in the gold medal game.

Evans, if he can play PG, would be a big-time player. I am not sure Evans is a PG though.

Minny wants Rubio too, so we have to be very careful about speculating.

Actually I have seen him play a couple of times in person and feel there is 5 pg in this draft better then Rubio. I really think most of this hype about Rubio is just that HYPE. He will be a bust

Saw rubio in Olympics....and he looked good....lost at times

He is a passer....a facilitator....not a scorer....cant shoot and whilst he can get to the rim....he gets knocked down more than Rondo does when he gets there.

Rajon can pass....not as flashy as Rubio....but he certainly can set the table....whilst not a shooter...he has improved a bit....but his penetration is elite....he finishes well under pressure and he also plays outstanding D in the C's system.

He brings more to our team....he is good now....Rubio is despite high draft status, a project...

Can you build around a player who's prime skill is passing? Nash has required big time scorers around him, so has Kidd and whilst CP only has D West really, he can score himself..

Get Rubio and you will always require big time scorers around him.....Rajon can carry the load him self at times

I think Doc and Danny favour a scoring/shooting point - someone like Curry might fit. I believe Danny considered himself a scoring combo guard..

Tyreke is Danny's guy for sure. He's not a point guard though. He's a slashing 2 guard in the mold of D Wade. He CAN be special. I'd definitely do Rondo for Conley and Gay but I'm on the fence if I would do Rondo for Conley and the #2. For those of you who haven't seen workout this video of Evans in Sac, check it out.

well, As i forsee it is another Ray Allen, KG scenario when the Celtics aquired the 2. Like what I said before, Rondo for draft pick #2 and filler for both teams if needed and #2 and Ray Allen for bigger star

I don't know anything about the guys in the draft really, but I bet that if we trade Rondo Danny already know we are getting Kidd or Nash

Nah. Flynn's too small. Doc dreams of running a proper motion offenses and flex offenses not limited by a PG who can't shoot, IMHO. You don't need a real PG just someone who can dribble the ball up the court against some pressure. C. Billups is a good example of this kind of PG.

Danny's thinking makes a ton of sense IMHO. With the no handchecking rules PGs cant really stay in front of other PG no matter how quick. So you gain little with a quick PG defensively. So why not go with a big PG like a Gary Payton type..?

Back in the day GP would switch off and cover Jordan. That's such a luxury for a coach. The big PG can also fight through picks. Don't think that Doc won't try to run Evans as a PG. The C's don't believe they even need or have PGs in their system.

The PG just makes the entry pass but the SG could do the same thing.. They have two wings - two guards and a a big essentially.. Doc has been craving the big PG since I can remember. Part of the reason is that he was a pretty big PG.

All it should take is a moment's thought as to what trades Memphis has served up in the past to understand why Danny would check what was cooking with them, and I don't think Danny has a history of talking up anyone he has then gone on to draft.
