$3 million - late first rounder

The Knicks paid the Lakers $3 million to get the 29th pick in the draft. This pretty much sets the bar for acquiring a late first round pick. I believe $3 million is the max a team can pay. If this is the case I don't see a team over the luxury tax like the Celtics acquiring a late first round pick. It's going to be a very long slow night for Celtics fans. Should be fun to see what other teams do tonight.

Since when are the knicks the measuring bar?
I am sure the Lakers will take that 3M and buy a higher pick.

and if you are paying the Max you could at least wait to see what is left on the board by then.

We probably won't be buying a first rounder then. I think the team lost money last year.

LA will put that money into Ariza and Odom. Buss doesn't like paying the luxury tax.

As if New York did that. The max amount of money for the 29th pick in a weak draft?

how much can we sell the 58th pick for?

:( It's nice being good, but the worst part of that is the slow NBA Drafts.

I don't see how that sets the price. Any other deals will be with different teams (I would assume) and you only have 1 more day to make a deal. If a team is in penny pinching mode and get a call offering 2 mil for a pick that they don't want, I would think they make the deal. One thing I have learned about the NBA; when it comes to trades, previously established value means nothing. The only place where setting a precedent for what something or someone is worth is when it comes to signing contracts.

Wouldn't have been a great move for us, because we're short on roster spots.

C Perk and at least 1 other
PF KG, Davis, Scal, Powe
SF Pierce, Walker, and 1 other
SG Allen, Allen, House, Giddens
PG Rondo and 2 others

That's 16 already, which obviously isn't happening. We already have 3 projects in Giddens, Walker and, sad to say, a rehabbing Powe. Unless somebody young has a breakthrough, that's more than enough.

errr..WRONG

The Lake Show was saving cash. Jerry Buss is ALWAYS willing to do whatever it takes...but wasting money on a late, late first rounder who would not make this team...is a NO BRAINER!!!

The 29th pick would NEVER have made the team...they have to save some money somehow to retain FA's...so 3 Mil is 3 Mil..bring on LO and TA!!

Has any team ever made 3 million for such a lousy pick? With the Gasol trade, Ariza trade, and now this, I'm beginning to think the sport is rigged for the Lakers.

If it's any consolation to those lamenting the Knicks paying the Lakers
$3 million for the #29 pick;

Houston just paid the Wizards
$2.5 Million for the #32 pick.

And last year,

to get Mario Chalmers at #34,

Pat Riley paid Minnesota $1.5 Million Cash plus the 2009 #45 and #47 picks.

That's amazing. I thought there are limits as to how much a team can pay for a second round pick. I'm amazed NO didn't sell their pick. I thought they are in a horrible financial position.

Actually, the Knicks paid the Lakers, for the #29 pick,

$3 million cash + their 2011 Second Round Pick.

Dont' give up on Danny's latest steal yet! :D I see you already have a sig for Lester--- nice work.

Thing is, with that 6'9" wingspan, he could have that cup of Gatorade without even getting up.
