LOL, very interesting. It's like him and Danny are in a game of poker. Ainge made a bet and Rondo just came back over the top.

I would take that deal if I'm Danny. Rondo is a smart kid and Danny is a smart guy. I think Rondo look at it like this....he knows he not a max contract guy yet> But he still have 1 maybe 2 big time contracts coming his way. In those 5 years the kid is going to ball to show that he is in fact worth max dollars. I think by Danny coming out and "blasting" Rondo on WEEI it only motivated the kid to prove his haters wrong.

That is a good deal. Honestly. Ainge would be stupid to come out and say it now, but Rondo is worth paying Max money for. He is young, near all star and have drastically improved his game every year. He has a championship already and averaged a triple double for a series. As much as the Cfans of this board say he NEEDS TO GO because of his "attitude" it is that "attitude" or more aptly that SWAGGER that defines true winners. Rondo is one of the few true winners we have had in a while. 10 Mil a year is a good deal and I think we give it to him. A week from now I predict this whole ugly period will be washed away and info will come out discrediting most of it as the media's attempt to take cheap shots at the Celtics once again.

I think that is on the outer limits of reasonable. I'm fine with it. Devin Harris-type contract (he got 5/45 iirc, while still not a full-time starter).

I'm not so much concerned with that as I am why Rondo would even say this. Why would any player say this? It makes no sense to me.

Unless it points to what Kefa said: a Rondo trade is imminent. There are two possible reasons why all this Rondo drama/criticism is going on:

1) Light fire under him/lower his contract demands

or

2) There's an unofficial Rondo trade on hold pending an extension for the obvious reason that the new team wouldn't want just a 1-year rental. Ainge, as a way to ensure the deal is getting done, attempts to lower Rondo's extension value. Otherwise, why the timing? All this stuff magically comes out about Rondo within 48 hours of the draft?

This new wrinkle fits into Theory 2 better than Theory 1. Why would Rondo (or any player for that matter) publicly discuss what they're willing to accept before negotiations even start? I've never heard of that.

a max deal for 5 years I'm pretty sure would exceed 80 or 90 mil. This is completely reasonable.

Indeed. Devin Harris got 5/42 and he didn't have half the production of Rondo.
