OT: Nets/Magic working on a trade

Post#1 » by 17banners » Thu Jun 25, 2009 7:58 pm

From Hollinger:

"Nets and Magic are apparently working on a Vince Carter trade, according to our Chad Ford. Rafer Alston, Courtney Lee and Tony Battie would go to New Jersey."

Interesting. I thought the Nets could do better for VC, but Courtney Lee is a pretty good player, I suppose. I doubt Rafer would be content backing up Devin Harris, though.

Meh trade for the magic. Courtney Lee broke out last playoffs, why would you trade that for wince carter?

If they lose Turkoglu we can live with it if not we are in serious trouble!

Danny needs to do something...we have more than enough assets...

So how many Celtics fans out there are going to be ticked if the Celtics make no moves today? I'm guessing more than a few. :D

I could see this trade going down if Harris gets moved in that reported 3-way that's being negotiated.

Pretty decent for both teams. Vince would give Orlando that second playmaker/distributor that they'd need if they lost Hedo.

Like the cavs the Magic are basically givivg up nothing (Lee may be decent I suppose) to get a star player. If this trade goes though the magic are going to be very tough to beat this year.

East is getting much better now. Wizards got better, Cavs got better and now the Magic are going to get better. I am getting a little concerned that the celtics may be falling behind now. Yes we still have the big 3 but they are a year older and KG is coming off surgery. Ainge needs to make a move.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

Good trade for Orlando. I assume they were going to lose Turkoglu anyhow. Otis Smith seems to be a good gm to me. I think it was him that did the Ariza for Brian Cook trade, though. That's his black eye.

Danny's working the phones, but do you think other teams press for more knowing all the moves being made to the contenders in the east?

It makes one wonder how much Ray Allen is worth on the market. Both a productive player and expiring contract. I wouldn't mind seeing a similar deal for a young prospect like a julian wright, maybe with Tyson Chandler involved, (is that possible salary gurus?)

If Orlando losses Hedo for nothing, I don't see this trade making them significantly better.

I like Lee and the Magic should be holding on to veteran size (Battie) rather than trading for veteran "closers" (Carter). Maybe Vince Carter four years ago makes sense but at this point Air Canada is on par with his cousin in having the ability to make teams better by his absence.

This would be a great trade for Orlando.

To me, it looks like a lateral move. And it was possible that they were going to lose Turkoglu so Smith is just being proactive so that he wasn't left with a 5-7 seed. Turkoglu was huge for the success of the Magic last year.

Dude, they go from having a so-so 2 guard to a perennial all-star. Great trade for Orlando. Man Danny Must be cooking up some highway robbery, after seeing these trades going down.

This one is leaving me scratching my head. I personally think that Orlando is a better team with Lee and Turkoglu then with Vince and no Lee/Turkoglu. Unless they plan on signing Hedo too in which case this is a very good trade for Orlando. One of the things that made them so tough this year was playing Hedo and Rashard next to each other. This trade with seriously affect that dynamic.

Dorfon, does this trade somehow keep them from being able to resign Turkoglu?
