OT : ORL Lands VC

Post#1 » by bc legends » Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:05 pm

The New Jersey Nets have agreed in principal to send Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson to the Orlando Magic for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee, two league executives told Yahoo! Sports.

Via Yahoo!

I'm assuming Hedo is on his way out & this only benefits them if they're getting something in return for him which is likely.

Activity is definitely picking up in the EC, and if DA&BOS don't make a move soon I know I like many others will be very disappointed..

And that makes the Magic a contender.

The Nets IMO have no business agreeing to this if they can't at least get a guy like Courtney Lee and/or get a pick out of the deal as well. VC's worth can't be that low. And Ryan Anderson? I didn't even notice.

Maybe a mute point, but this trade doesn't work in the trade checker....VC's salary is too big to make this deal work.

Wonder who or what is being missed in the details.

This tells me that they are giving up on Turkoglu. With Carter (and without Gortat and Turkoglu), the Magic payroll next year is about $65M. These leaves them enough room to sign Gortat and probably just make it under the luxury tax. If they sign Turkglo, they probably will be at least $3-5M over the cap. I can't see them signing Gortat for another $4-5.5M on top of this. More importantly, without Gortat, and having traded Battie, they have nobody to play the 4 or 5 off the bench. Without Battie, they desperately need Gortat. I think they resign Gortat and Turkoglu is gone. I think this makes the Magic easier for us to beat next year - I'd rather see Pierce up agianst a 33 year old Carter than fighting a 6' 10' Turkglo.

I really doubt that Orlando will be shipping out Hedo. Hedo plays SF. Orlando's biggest weakness last season by a long shot (when Jameer was healthy) was the SG position. Particularly if they resign Gortat, they've got good depth all around next season except for a back-up PG.

They can save 5 mil by finding someone to take Redick and Anthony Johnson for a future pick or somethin, or maybe the S&T Gortat for that bait.

They don't need Gortat, they have **** Ryan Anderson, who will now be on a team where he can destroy the opponent from behind the arc. Orlando gets rid of their weakest link in Rafer, a guy who has become criminally overrated in Courtney Lee, and a decent backup big man for two guys who will make them even more dangerous than they already were. This trade is absolute bull...

I am guessing the Nets swap Douglas Roberts for Redick. Then I believe it works.

Yeah, acquiring Ryan Anderson to boot is a coup for Orlando. He adds more perimeter shooting with Rashard Lewis, Pietrus and Redick. I guess Lewis goes to small forward and Anderson starts at power forward. I think Turkoglu is gone, or they're expecting him to sign elsewhere.

Agree that Turk won't be back and Turk > VC. This just makes Orlando more exciting to watch with the VC dunks.

Is this really that good of a deal for the Magic. In reality the trade is Hedo and Gortat (due to inability to sign) in addition to Rafer, Lee, and Battie for Carter and Anderson.

If Orlando keeps Turk the Celtics are going to struggle to beat that team. If Turk moves on then it is a wash if not a downgrade.

Agreed. Before previously posting I hadn't realized that Turk was opting out of his contract. But, I still don't think its a done deal that he'll leave. It would seem to me that he'd take less to stay in Orlando and may be back if someone else like the Pistons don't offer to overpay him.
