Dahntay Jones again

@KWAPT Dahntay Jones is looking for a multi-year deal. The Celts are willing to surrender $8 mil over 2 years. He wants 4 years. 3:27 PM Jun 26th from web

Stephen A Smith

Stephen A Smith either knows something or he has been smoking something. If this is the case then I'm sure it would be a sign and trade (TA & Giddens?) because I don't think the Celtics would use the MLE on Jones when they really need big men.

Where the hell does Stephen A Smith even work?

I'm going to predict Stephen A. is way off on this. Dahntay Jones is worth nowhere near $8M over 2 years.

He couldn't even make the Celtics for the minimum when they were starved for depth and had no money to spend. He had a decent year, but nothing that warrants that steep of an increase in his value.

Im all for bringing him in if it doesnt touch the MLE...

if it does, look elsewhere... Barness, Daniels etc

Smith must be smokin' crack... Perk makes $4 mil a year and he is 10X the player... Jones isn't going to get that much to play in Boston...

I like Jones but he is a minimum wage worker.

Seems like an awfully big salary for a very regular player. I'll believe it when I see it. And I hope I don't see it.

No chance I would give Dahntay Jones 4 million dollars a year, there are much better options to give that type of money to than Jones.

why would you sign a guy who can't shoot when you already have giddens, walker and tony allen vying for the back up 3 spot? I think Jones is a serviceable nba player and is better than he was when he was here before but this move doesn't make much sense. I also don't get the Kidd rumor. Who are we offering?

Because Walker is the only one of those guys who is even close to tall enough to play the 3?

Jones can't play the 3 either. DEN has no bird rights to him. Half of the money described would make sense on an LLE contract. But it kind of falls under the just doesn't matter all that much category and is awful at 4 mil per.

I could see paying Dahntay Jones the $4.0 million a year if it's a sign and trade with Denver getting Tony Allen and JR Giddens. This would give the Celtics a backup 2-3 and open up another roster spot for another player. Without the sign and trade all I would offer Jones is the LLE.

TA days are over in Boston and JR Giddens just isn't going to get the time to play for the Celtics. Neither would be a great loss.

Well TA outplayed Jones when he was here, so we'll be downgrading and overpaying Jones if we did that.

He's 6'6", I think he's a lot more passable at the 3 than the others.

But 4 mil is way too much.

He is 6'6" but he is also 210 lbs, he doesn't rebound or play the SF position. He has been in the league for 6 years and plays guard. Tony Allen, Giddens, even Ray Allen are better options at the SF spot than Jones.

He's pesky, but he's not all that useful. Denver had to put Billups or Carmelo on Kobe in crunch time because Jones wasn't an impact defender and he was an offensive liability. You know, kind of like Tony Allen.

I'd much prefer mediocre guys like Q Ross and Ime Udoka.
