Stealing Lamar Odom - our chances?

We know Danny can be very shrewd and so far I think he's handling the free agent situation wisely.
That said, with possibilities being batted about for the C's, and with Rasheed looking very possible, you naturally wonder how any new addition will work.
Now, look, I believe a healthy Celts team would've destroyed LA to repeat this year.
But we certainly can reinforce the roster, of course, and while Rasheed is an appealing addition to be sure, I'm not 100% sure we can rely on him to show up consistently. Which brings me to Odom...
Yes, he has a rep for being inconsistent himself. But he is a younger, more versatile player who brings just as much size to the frontcourt as Wallace would.
And signing Odom would slash the Lakers' tires before they even started the season. Two birds, one stone.
So, Celtics bretheren, what about Lamar Odom? Would he work for the C's? Is Danny even thinking about the potential?

You should be more concerned with your conference than the Lakers.

Well??. Dont leave us in suspense, Tell us WHY you believe Boston would have beaten a team that owned Boston during the regular season.

I'm not saying it would be easy; just that he's unrestricted and if there is the slightest possibility of making it work, it should be strongly considered.
And to the guy with the "We should worry about the East first" comment, give me a break.
Cleveland and then Orlando fizzled out because they're simply not that good. If you don't think a healthy Celtics team wouldn't dispose of these one-trick teams en route to the title, then you don't know basketball.

That's not basketball. That's homerism.

The fact of the matter is that both the Lakers and Celtics are good teams. Neither would "destroy" or "dispose" one another. It would likely be a competitive series.

0% percent chance is Odom going to team he lost to year before to leave the team he just won the title with to accept a very large paycut as well.

The Lakers grab the Christmas game at home by 9 with a poor effort by Boston and then steal a 1-point OT win in Boston and that's "owning" a team that beat the hell out of them just a few months prior in the Finals? Um, no.
Did you forget the Celtics' 27-2 start before the team went into a quasi-funk, then Garnett goes down, Pierce carries more of the load and wears himself out, and the team runs out of gas?
Here's the bottom line: The Celtics are the best defensive team in the league. The Lakers are a finesse team with no rebounding outside of Gasol and Odom. The Celts have more scoring weapons, have a far better point guard, and have a consistent, committed team effort on defense.

We're terribly concerned about the big senior citizen and Wince.
LA bigs are made of marshmallow. KG and Powe would've left them bloody and crying.

Answering the original question: Marc Spears revealed last night that the Celtics do have interest in Odom.
Rasheed is tops on their list though, and should the Celtics get Rasheed they couldn't get Odom too.
Should Wallace go elsewhere: Odom does have New England connections so it's certainly possible he would consider Boston if no one opens the wallet for him.
(But I think it's going to be Rasheed.)

I dont know. He played 33 minutes and got 16 points AT HOME. Lakers had injuries too so dont try that excuse. Take that ass whippin like a man.

Ok. If you want to look at Cleveland's and Orlando's performances just weeks ago, with their rosters having been exposed, and conclude that they could get past a full-strength Boston team, you're entitled to that view, however distorted.
If Odom can't re-sign with LA and wants to win with a great team, he shouldn't care that it's Boston. I'm sure he'd be sitting there in Ainge's office; "Ok, likely chance at a ring or holding a "grudge"... hmm... which.. one... "

Really? Then again its nothing like that 40 point beat down we put on you guys this past year. That was just a massacre.

Because ANYONE who follows basketball(and from what I can tell you apparently don't or can't comprehend very much because your the same moron that has been trolling here since last year) can understand that the season reflects only so much on how two teams will ultimately match up later in the post-season. Just look back at the ORL vs. LA series both reg/post season. Your just kidding yourself if you think LA would have beaten a healthy BOS team in the finals. You dodged a bullet and won the title, get over yourselves and enjoy it while it lasts because come 09-10 that trophy is coming back home.

For Boston signing Odom is highly improbable. Several things would absolutely have to occur for Odom to end up in Green. First the Lakers would have to overpay heavily for Ariza AND decide that they simply couldn't afford Odom, not even at the MLE... which is practically unthinkable from LAL's perspective. Then, all the teams with cap space would have to decide that they weren't interested in him either. Under that scenario, Boston, which is close to his roots, would then become a possibility. But Odom isn't even the Celtics top priority. Sheed is. So then Sheed would have to decide to go elsewhere and the Celtics would have to make a somewhat late push to get Odom.
That scenario is simply not going to occur. Not in this universe.

Nice info. Thanks.
My whole point is that I think Danny knows what will work for this team, and since Odom's out there he has to strongly consider it. The Lakers are losing either Ariza or Odom; it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

SLIM to NONE!

and thats NOT even being a homer, if Odom had to chose MLE between Bos or LA, I dont see why he would choose Bos.

Agreed. No way he'd go to BOS if LA would offer also offer him the MLE. Celtics are better off getting Sheed.

Last year's Celtics/Lakers games were awfully close considering they were 5 on 8...
