AZCentral - Bos interested in McDyess, Hill & Wilcox

Hill is receiving interest from several teams, including Boston, Denver and New York, because he rejuvenated his career in Phoenix. The Denver Post reported he could command $3 million per year there. Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni probably has major minutes and money waiting for Hill, who said he is leaning toward remaining with Phoenix.
Like Hill, McDyess' career had been riddled with injuries. He appeared to have lost pop and hope when he came to Phoenix in 2004. Instead, McDyess found a training approach that clicked and had a run of late-season games that led to a four-year, $23 million contract with Detroit.

He was not the only player to get paid after leaving Phoenix with improved numbers. Tim Thomas (four years, $24 million), Steven Hunter (five years, $17 million) and Eddie House ($8.6 million earned in four years after next season) each improved his stock after a signing minimum contract with Phoenix.

But the Suns are recruiting as a lottery team, albeit a 46-36 one. They will have a hard time competing with San Antonio, Boston, Cleveland and Atlanta for McDyess. Boston is interested in Wilcox. Denver talked to Frye at midnight Wednesday. Fabricio Oberto, waived by Detroit, could be of interest to the Suns once he clears waivers Tuesday.

Looks like Danny Ainge is touching all the bases. Celtic fans should be happy to know that Ainge will be bringing in some quality talent this off-season. Time will tell who it is. :D

Makes you wonder if Bos gets Sheed for the MLE and McDyess for the LLE would they let BBD go? Very unlikely but worth thinking about.

Wilcox would be a nice pickup.

But for what cost? While I do agree, since it seems unlikely that neither Baby OR Powe will be here next year, I don't want to give him any of the MLE since that will most likely be used soley on Sheed and I feel like he will want more than the LLE and even then, I would much rather spend that or Grant Hill or another 3 to backup Paul.

I think Ainge is just lining up his options.

1. Sheed
2. McDyess
3. Wilcox
4. ?
5. ?

He doesn't know who is going to sign with the Celtics but he is determined to get one of them.

I'd take Wilcox over McDeyess, im a fan.

I don't think Oberto should be overlooked. He'd be a great reserve big that can play 20 minutes or 2 minutes and not blow up the locker room.

Wilcox and Baby would be a great tandem off the bench if we can't land Sheed. Parker/Hill at the backup wing is solid also.

I think Parker solves all our needs at the wing. He can play both the 2 and 3, shoot the 3, defend respectably, and finish better than Grant hill on the break. He's also talented enough to start for small stretches of the season and won't ask for long contracts and big money. I'd be stoked if we picked up Sheed with the MLE, Parker for the LLE, and Oberto for the minimum.

If we land sheed... and lose big baby i wonder what Wilcox would ask for, probably more than the LLE but it might be worth a try, i dont mind him

still, we need a back up who can guard 5's... which is why we really need sheed, mcdyess and wilcox are ok additions but not ideal IMO

Fab can't play 20 MPG anymore at all. He would be decent getting 10 MPG, but nothing more. He's still a very good passer, but he's slowed down significantly, and he has medical issues.

Some other free agents on Boston’s radar include, but are not limited to, forwards Grant Hill (Phoenix), Antonio McDyess (Detroit), Zaza Pachulia (Atlanta), Lamar Odom (Lakers), Anthony Parker (Toronto), and Jamario Moon (Miami); center Chris Wilcox (New York); and guard Marquis Daniels (Indiana).

“We made calls with quite a few free agents’ representatives late last night from my office to let them know we have interest,” Ainge said on Wednesday. “We contacted 10 free agents and tried to get some feedback in what they are looking for and their interest long term.”
