What's next? Marion to Cleveland?

Post#1 » by kmgarnett21 » Fri Jul 3, 2009 2:42 am

It wouldn't surprise me to be honest if Shawn Marion went to Cleveland. It also wouldn't surprise me if LA traded Vujacic to New Orleans for Chris Paul. It's basically the equivalent of trading Kwame for Pau.

Orl gets Vince.
Cle gets Shaq. And possibly Marion.
SA gets RJ. And possibly Rasheed.
LAL gets Artest. And prolly re-sign Odom.

What have we done? We let Powe walk. We packed up half our franchise to talk to Rasheed Wallace though reports say sheed's leaning 51/49 in favor of SA.

This isn't a reactionary thread to the Artest thing. I'm just wondering what big move will be made next by one of the "Big 5" teams? So much for parody in the NBA. The only teams that should bother suiting up this coming season should be Orlando, Cleveland, San Antonio, Los Angeles and Boston.

I realize we don't need to make a bunch of big splash moves like Cleveland, Orlando and LAL have done. We just need to get Rasheed and Grant Hill or Marquis Daniels, and possibly Oberto and we'll be more than set. But we haven't done ONE thing. Boston keeps coming up in just about every important FA, yet we haven't landed one fish yet.

Come on Danny! Starting to get a little worried and it hasn't even been a week into the FA period lol.

Everything we've been hearing would seem like Boston is well ahead of SA in the Sheed sweepstakes at this point, where have u heard otherwise?

we absolutely need to make a move though... but nothing groundbreaking, if we get Sheed for the MLE, a guy like hill/barnes or daniels for the lle and bring marbury back i think we're fine, regardless of who the other big 4 teams pick up, there are only so many minutes to go round especially if Cleveland try and load up with a guy like Marion

Exactly. You understand what needs to be done, unlike some. We have the best and most cohesive team in the league when healthy. We just need to add a couple of bench pieces. IF we re-sign Marbury, sign Sheed and sign one of Hill, Barnes, or Daniels (HBD), we'll be good to go. We also need to address the center position, could we still sign Oberto if we got Rasheed and one of HBD?

Rondo/Marbury
Ray/House
Pierce/HBD
KG/Sheed
Perk/Oberto

That looks SOOOOO amazing to me, and so seemingly simple. Hill wants to come here, although he's not my first choice, I'd rather have Daniels. And Rasheed is a toss up between us and San Antonio. I haven't heard anything about Oberto, so he should be easy to get.

I'm just sick of our names coming up in many of the FAs and then watching us just stand our ground. Hopefully we do this lol.

I'd actually keep Davis and sign Sheed, front court would be sorted for the most part

I would like to see if anyone would give us a player for Scal/TA's etc expirings, not only giving us another guy to use off the bench but another roster spot for a 5th big

Which player that has signed did you expect the Celtics to sign? I didn't see them linked to any of the guys so far, with the exception of hearing they were interested in Artest by the Cavs website but it was pretty obvious they were never getting him.

The guys the Celtics have been linked to consistently like Sheed/Dice/Hill/Parker/etc. are all still available.

Agreed. No time to panic just because other teams are making their moves right away. The players we believe can contribute to #18 are still available and it will just require a little time and patience that's all.

Chris Mannix of SI was on with Tanguay tonight---he said he just got off the phone w/ Sheed's agent after the C's meeting--he felt like the Surs had a 51% chance over the C's at this point----NOT GOOD NEWS..... NOT when EVERYONE else is getting ALL STARS for NOTHING..!!!..............my guess is, we'll wait around for Sheed to decide on SA---and then we get stuck with CRAP-!!

If we don't get sheed then we don't get him. There is nothing you can do. Like the rondo show said, it's not like we were in the hunt for artest or ariza, or vince or RJ.

On the other hand, we could always make a big bos-phx trade.

Also if SA has a good chance of grabbing Sheed, we need to be going after McDyess ASAP. In some ways McDyess would be better than Wallace, just not as versatile.

Yeah we need to know with Sheed as soon as possible.. and realistically, if Arizas agent wasnt being a douche to LA he would have re-signed and we would have been in the hunt for Artest, i said since the start of the off-season he would be worth a MLE offer... obviously Kobe and Lamar had a huge part in him going to LA though

Orlando, Cleveland and San Antonio all still have the MLE in play... and what do they need?

All 3 are looking for a back up big man, or in SA's case a starting one, and all could use a back up wing

all the same positions we are looking for, we cant miss the boat on this free agent period, we're really going to let Orlando, Cleveland, LA and San Antonio add borderline all star players, and in some cases multiples (if Sheed, Marion etc were to go to them) and do nothing but pick up the left overs? i really hope not

I bet Marion plays for Toronto. He wants $$ and they can give the most.

Chris Mannix of SI also said after talking to Grant Hill's agent that the Celtics have a very good chance of getting Grant Hill.

Honestly, this is getting bad. The Artest move is an absolute killer. Damn.

We need Rasheed just to come close to keeping pace. Even with him, we are still losing a little ground - at this point, he isn't the star Marion or even Shaq or Jefferson are. But Artest outclasses everyone. There's no way he should settle for the MLE, and I never thought he would. I though LA would lose a little ground with Ariza or Odom leaving, but they did it again.

The luckiest team in sports history. And now they probably legitimately have the best lineup in the league.

How many star players in NBA history have taken cheap contracts like this to change teams? All I can think of are Payton, Malone, and now Artest.

Hopefully next year works out the same with Rasheed's team taking out the stacked Laker squad. Damn.

I guess it is true that the key FAs that have signed with the other elite teams weren't really on our radar, but still. We're supposed to be big players in the offseason and we haven't done anything.

The main point I meant to make was that all the other elite teams have made big moves to improve their roster, and we've taken a step backwards losing Powe and perhaps Big Baby.

Like mentioned previously, we don't need a big 'vince to orl' type of move. We just need to sign bench and role players. I don't understand why it seems to be so hard. I remember after we first got KG, Posey, House, etc were all itching to get to Boston. Why is it so different now?

I'm happy Ariza went to Houston.
I don't like Artest to LA
I do not want Marion to go to Cleveland. Any other team would be great.

Sun's don't touch that with a 10 foot pole. All we get is Rondo in return for Amar'e, Nash, and not to mention Dudley. What a JOKE. We don't want your crap combo of Allen, and Rondo on a team that has no players doesn't help either.
