Final Roster Predictions

Celtics Fans,

What do you think your final roster will be? The final 15 players to make the roster once training camp is finished. Please, do not add any free agent or trade speculations, only things that are concrete (Or things you're fairly confident will be done.) Your draft selections obviously aren't automatically on the roster and you can predict that they will be cut or sent to the D-League/Europe if you choose. You can also add UDFA who are playing on your summer league team. So give it a go, who will be your final roster?

P.S. You can count a guy like Rasheed Wallace on your roster if you choose seeing how it could go either way, but if you can, make a roster with him on it, and one without him on it with the addition of an extra player.

I'm very tempted to put Hudson on in place of Pruitt as I think that DUI he got was his ticket off the team based on a off handed comment Danny made about it on WEEI. I think Powe will probably be back midseason and maybe Gabe goes then.

I'm begining to doubt Sheed coming here when he can play more mins in SA/Orl. Despite being a contender we are at a disadvantage compared to the other contenders who 1 have starting spots available, 2 can match the offers we make and finally are in much warmer climates. I'm predicting Sheed ends up in SA and we go after Marion with the Cavs in prusit as well. We'll add a big for the min but can't project who that will be at this time.

I have a feeling Hudson will be a better player that Marbury (at this point in this career) and Pruitt. Also, there is a good chance Marbury goes elsewhere.

Sheed's not coming here. SAS is gonna give him 3 years and a starting spot. He would of signed with us already if he was coming here. Add Marbury to the list because I'm pretty sure no one's giving him the Full MLE and we can offer him I think like 3 million that doesn't affect our LLE or MLE. I'm starting to wonder if we'll even use our whole MLE. Hill's not coming here with what were gonna offer him because I believe NYK just offered him their Full MLE. :(

Not sure if you've noticed but Charlie V, B Gordon, R Artest, T Ariza, etc. have already announced who their signing with, but not Sheed. Which IMO isn't good for us.

As you can tell, I'm not all that confident that we get sheed and hill/daniels as some others are. I dont even think we'll get Marbury back. If we go into the season like this, we won't win the title. We NEED marbury, sheed and hill/daniels if we want to keep up with LAL, Cle, Orl, SA.

Rondo/House
Ray/Iverson
Pierce/Walker
Garnett/Davis
Perkins/Wallace/Swift

Optimistic, assumes a unlikely S&T for Iverson or Iverson taking the minimum for a year.

Okey-dokey... I'll base my roster on there being no trades before the season, or not until the trade deadline. This isn't necessarilly how I want things to play out. But given that money will be tight for Ainge. This is my guess...

1. Garnett
2. Pierce
3. Perkins
4. Rondo
5. R. Allen
6. R. Wallace (free agent signing)
7. House
8. T. Allen
9. Scalabrine
10. Walker
11. Giddens
12. Barnes (free agent signing)
13. Swift (one-year, non-guaranteed contract)
14. Hudson (assigned to the NBDL)
15. Open

I'll say that Wallace accepts Boston's offer for now, he could end up signing with San Antonio instead. I'm about sixty to forty on this. I think he's going to the Spurs.

I don't think Pruitt's option will be picked up on August 1st. So he'll become a free agent next month.

Are you crazy man?! Iverson himself has already said he won't accept coming off the bench. Iverson is the LAST player I want on this team. He's a one man team and needs the ball 48 minutes to be succesful. Thats why that Philly team went to the Finals, b/c he had the perfect group of guys around him - no other stars except Mutumbo, who wasn't an offensive force and was just there for his defense.

AI does not fit here in Boston at all and would definitely cause problems. I wouldn't even want him here if we traded Ray away.

I've refrained from answering because I was too worried about the outcome.

I'm gonna go with the best case scenario, which although unrealistic,
will imply that the Celtics will probably have to trade 1 or 2 of their
current players for a pick. If that's the case, doing it in a way
that let's the Celtics pay more than the LLE to Grant Hill is the way to go.

Assumes Robert Swift ends up the third string center,
Rasheed Wallace comes on board, Grant Hill comes on board, and
Big Baby is salary matched to keep him available in case of injury to someone
ahead of him in the rotation. Also, I put in minutes
because I don't think that Doc want's to play players into the ground again.

First, the 12 ACTIVE players

C: Kendrick Perkins (24 mpg) / Rasheed Wallace (20 mpg) / Robert Swift (4 mpg)
PF: Kevin Garnett 30 mpg / Rasheed Wallace 4 mpg / Glen Davis 14 mpg
SF: Paul Pierce 30 mpg / Grant Hill 18 mpg
SG: Ray Allen 34 mpg / J. R. Giddens 14 mpg
PG: Rajon Rondo 31 mpg / Eddie House 15 mpg / Gabe Pruitt 2 mpg

Deep Bench
Brian Scalabrine
Tony Allen
Billy Walker
Lester Hudson

Obviously, 16 players is too many.
That's why, I still say find a home for Tony Allen and someone else to
get Grant Hill the paycheck he deserves. Meaning at least $4 million per year.
Grant can also play mobile PF when needed, since Grant Hill is a real 6' 8".

C :Kendrick Perkins (24 mpg) / Rasheed Wallace (20 mpg) / Robert Swift (4 mpg)
PF: Kevin Garnett 30 mpg / Rasheed Wallace 4 mpg / Glen Davis 14 mpg
SF: Paul Pierce 30 mpg / Grant Hill 18 mpg
SG: Ray Allen 34 mpg / J. R. Giddens 14 mpg
PG: Rajon Rondo 31 mpg / Eddie House 15 mpg / Gabe Pruitt 2 mpg

Deep Bench

Tony Allen
Billy Walker
Lester Hudson

Hard to imagine Pruitt and Giddens see minutes over Walker since he beat them out last year. If we get Hill he likely gets all the backup SF/SG minutes. Also I think Pruitt is likely gone and Danny probably is working on a mop up trade to free some slots.

I think the "no sheed" contingency might include some big moves that would really shake up the core. In other words Rondo and Ray Allen are not out of the woods yet. I am dead sure Danny doesn't want to see Orlando (which has reloaded with even more talent) use the Rondo rules on us again. Ray Allen has been underperforming (when you consider the defense attention he gets) and has an expiring contract.

I can see Pruitt being moved, since Lester Hudson, despite being a #58, supposedly has a money shot,
and can handle a ball. I think Rajon's presence as a summer league coach is designed
to bring Lester along as well as elevate Rajon's role with the team and have him
see the floor from the point of view of a coach, and manage personalities/
teammate relations from the point of view of a coach.

As far as Giddens/Walker/Pruitt who knows. Giddens has the potential to be the best
defender of the 3, or very close to Tony Allen. I don't see Walker defensively in
Tony or J.R.'s class, although Billy has some nice offensive aspects to his game.

I will say between Tony Allen/Brian Scalabrine/Gabe Pruitt/Billy Walker/J. R. Giddens
I expect, and sincerely hope, that two are not on the roster in October
because that will mean that the Celtics landed some free agents that they wanted
(like Rasheed Wallace (C/PF), Robert Swift (C) and Grant Hill (SF/PF/SG),
and the Celtics can dump some salary and free up some spots
because of the versatility of the players added.
Plus, it's a way to get Grant Hill more than the LLE, since Phoenix,
among others, owe him the full MLE for his previous discount to them.
As payback for his 2 years of loyal service,
I think Phoenix would give Grant Hill an S&T if they didn't have to take back salary,
meaning if Memphis, OKC, Sacramento or another team with cap room or a trade exception
accepted guys like Tony Allen in exchange for a pick or cash.

Realistic, but hopeful of

Rondo/Marbury/Hudson
Allen/House/Giddens
Pierce/Hill/Walker
Garnett/Davis/Scal
Perkins/Sheed/Swift

Pruitt and Ta gone, DA keeps Swift for... some reason

I would like to see if Scal/TA/Pruitt could net us anyone at all that could make a rotation but its not likely

Here's my second attempt with the inclusion of one trade, and possibly another minor trade.

Decline to pickup the team option on Gabe Pruitt. If the following trade were consummated, then you could pickup the team option to keep him for insurance.

Trade JR Giddens to a team for a future second round pick. Ideally, he'll play well in the summer league.

Trade Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine and Eddie House to Indiana for Jamaal Tinsley and Brandon Rush.

Sign Robert Swift to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract.

Sign Chris Wilcox to a multi-year (two years) contract.

Sign Matt Barnes to the Bi-annual exception (one year).

Sign Rasheed Wallace to the MLE (two years).

Kevin Garnett
Paul Pierce
Kendrick Perkins
Rajon Rondo
Ray Allen

Bill Walker
Lester Hudson

One or two open roster spots.

All of this depends on the salary that's available, but it's just my idea.
