No offer to Hill made???

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Wed Jul 8, 2009 10:41 am

"Contrary to a published report, the Knicks have not made a formal offer to Hill, but, according to a source, Hill's agent, Lon Babby, did discuss parameters of a potential deal with Knicks president Donnie Walsh. Celtics president Danny Ainge Tuesday confirmed to The Boston Globe that the Celtics also are interested in adding Hill, though the most the Celtics can offer is the $1.99-million biannual exception. The Knicks, who are owned by Cablevision which also owns Newsday, could offer more money if they dip into the mid-level exception, which Boston used up in signing Rasheed Wallace.

It is believed that the Knicks will wait for Hill to approach them with interest in coming to New York before a formal offer is made."

"Hill also is considering staying in Phoenix, but the Suns won't outbid the Knicks. Hill told reporters yesterday at the Garden playing "at the mecca" has always been appealing to him and he has always loved New York. He claimed he would've heavily considered the Knicks when he was a free agent in 2000 had the Knicks not tried to move his buddy Patrick Ewing in a sign-and-trade. Hill would have to change his number as he wears 33, which the Knicks have retired."

SOOOOO......if you put the 2 stories together......Knicks offer nothing and the Suns won't outbid the Knicks's nothing.......      Hill better take Danny's offer.

A formal offer means it's not available for other players,
versus a verbal agreement, followed by paperwork.

The Arizona Republic reported that the Knicks offered Grant Hill a choice of
1 year for $5 million or 3 years for $10 million;
with a NY paper chiming in that the Knicks feared that they were being used for
leverage in negotiating.

The Arizona reports on Hill have been somewhat ambiguous,
calling Hill the Suns #1 Free Agent Target,
yet leaving a range for salary between the LLE equivalent of the MLE to full MLE.

I think Hill got caught by surprise when the Suns tried to trade Amare, and failed,
although they were able to trade Shaq.

Instead of blowing up the team, the Suns are trying to keep Nash around 1 more year,
with the present core, and that means trying to re-sign Hill, letting Hill keep his
starter's job and team leader role (along with Nash).

What the team will look like in April may be somewhat different, and next season as well.
I'd be surprised if Hill commits to a 2 year deal with Phoenix,
which makes me think the Celtics can get him if they step up
with a S&T for around $4 million.

If they play hardball, like they have been doing, they're risking
locking up another championship.

I highly doubt Phoenix is interested in a S&T. They sell their late 1st rounders consistently so I'd consider it unlikely they'd be willing to take on $4M and pay the luxury for a "talent" like JR Giddens or Bill Walker or whatever we are willing to offer that is far less than some of the talents available when they decided to just sell their pick. Plus, they want Grant Hill back so that gives them even less reason to be interested in a S&T.

I also don't see how potentially not getting Grant Hill is risking locking up another championship. I'm a big fan of Grant Hill and have said I wanted him for months, but this isn't a 25 year old Grant Hill. He's a pretty good player, but he's not locking up a championship for anyone at this point in his career.

Did you read my post? Phoenix takes no players back in the S& T, only picks or cash.

The picks or cash come from teams with cap space, like
Memphis (SG or PG),
Atlanta (PG),
Minnesota (SG)
Toronto (SG, SG & SF if Marion isn't re-signed).

The biggest problem is that there doesn't appear to be a home for Brian Scalabrine,
although there are several teams where Tony Allen would fit in off the bench.

"Hill said last week that he wants to be "fairly compensated" after finishing a two-year, $3.8 million contract with the Suns. "

You cannot help but laugh at this. Hill missed 297 games for the Magic in 6 seasons all while collecting a fat pay check. If there was any justice he would play for the magic for the next 3 years for free.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.
