Baby not seeing offers

Post#1 » by ddb » Wed Jul 8, 2009 1:12 pm

Just like many of us thought would happen, Big Baby isn't seeing offers. Teams have been "interested", but nobody is throwing dollars at him. Too many concerns.

Does this mean the Celtics still have a chance at retaining his services? Hmmmm

Well, I had mentioned earlier that it would not surprise me if Davis took the Celtics QO this year and became unrestricted next season when more teams have cap space.

That's because he's not worth the full MLE and teams know if they make him an offer of $3-4 Million, the Celtics would match anyway. Good new for us.

Good. As i said before he isn't worth that much. He is a jump shooting PF without 3 point range and a crappy rebounder and shot blocker. I can't believe the dollar figures that some posters were speculating that he would command..

The attraction for teams with Davis had to do with the salary limit and the belief that Boston would not match. With the Sheed signing Boston is no longer a team looking to get under the cap and now that 5.6 mil salary limit isn't looking that attractive with the projected cap for 10-11 shrinking by 15%-20%. Anybody looking for a multi year deal is in trouble right now.

I didn't think he would get an offer sheet and then someone, likely his agent, made everyone think something was going on, but I think he is more than likely back on the QO or Boston's terms. The one exception is possibly CLE but man I don't think Glen Davis is going to be the key to keeping LeBron happy.

I doubt that. He just had a good playoff performance and next year he'll be behind Perk/KG/Sheed in the rotation. He wont earn any more money playing 15 minutes/game and even less in the playoffs if everyone is healthy. My guess is he signs for something like 3 years/9M with the last year possibly being a team option.

So where are we on the roster thing.

We have 11 players under contract counting Sheed.

Baby a possible.
Leon a possible.
Pruitt a team option.
Lester a possible.
One more free agent with the LLE.
Possible SL filler such as Swift.

See if your Boston and you are going to sign Davis to multi year deal and it is less than 5 mil per you are going to want a longer deal. The value is going to be on the back end when he is a seasoned vet and Wallace is gone and KG is on the last year or two.

Ideally you would get him on deals simlilar to what Boobie Gibson and Ryan Gomes got, these were two 2nd rounders who did not get offers in restricted FA. 5 years 21-22 mil. Ryan's deal is really interesting in that you can buy out the last 3 years for 2.75 mil next summer and if not then he gets a player option for the 5th.

Leon is not going to be on the roster out of camp. We may only go with 14 but he is not going to be on the roster out of camp. The ideal scenario for Boston is probably that Leon remains an usigned FA is signed after the minimum salaries are prorated, in December, so he would only cost them 350,000-450,000 for the season but his Bird rights stay intact so that if all is well he can get paid in Boston next offseason.

I think he ends up in Orlando. If McDyess signs with the spurs it will leave the Magic with some very slim pickings.

The Orlando GM specifically said that he doesn't like Davis. If they lose on McDyess, they'll go after Bass. If not Bass, they'll probably settle for Gooden IMO.

I think you forgot that the Magic are targeting Brandon Bass and possibly Gooden (not 1 or the other but both as the market and offers gets weaker). Orlando's GM said he is not interested in Davis

hmm, maybe he ends up with another former LSU alum in Cleveland... I just dont see how Baby comes back here. With Rasheed coming here I dont see how Baby gets on the court unless there is foul trouble.

It might be better to save our money and get cheap veterans. 2-3 old dogs would probably be more valuable to us.

That would be ideal if he comes back for the QO.

I don't care about the following season. By then, Leon may be healthy, and the 2010 FA class will have some nice MLE possibilities.

Baby should explore Europe. With the lux tax implications and such, no team is going to sign multi year deals. He is going to end up taking the qualifier,or head to europe.

Detroit is apparently interested, especially if they lose McDyess. Don't really know how that would work out, considering they already have Maxiell. New Orleans is another team that would like to have him. However, Marc Spears says it would have to be a sign and trade. If that's the case, Antonio Daniels, Butler, or Wright would all look very nice in green next season. Danny would probably have to sweeten the deal to snag either of the latter two mentioned of course.

This makes me happy. I have never been a huge fan of Davis. I am not impressed by the fake hustle. I would like to see him back, but only for short money.

If we could somehow get Julian Wright from NO I would be stoked. He's exactly the long 3 we are looking for. He really improved his 3 point shot last year as well. Would JR or Bill and a signed Baby be enough?
