Possible Salary Dump Targets

I posted this a couple weeks ago in the San Antonio thread and didn't want to lose it. I wonder if any of these deals might be possible

Outside of Rondo and Ray Allen our expiring contracts are:
Scal 3.4 Million
Magnum TA 2.5 Million
JR Giddens 1.0 Million
Gabe Pruitt .8 Million (if we pick up his team option)

For a grand total of 7.7 Million, which means we can take back up to 9.5 Million. So all we need to find is a player making between 7.7 and 9.5 Million with more than one guaranteed year remaining on his contract playing on a team looked to free cap space for the summer of 2010.

Not saying these guys are available or would be good pickups just that their contracts fit the bill:
Boris Diaw
Gerald Wallace
Corey Maggettte
Stephen Jackson
Mike Dunleavy
TJ Ford
Marko Jaric
Dan Gadzuric
David West
James Posey
Mo Pete
Nick Collison
Nenad Krstic
Jason Kapono
Lewis Williams
Leandrinho Barbosa
Joel Przybilla
Andreas Nocioni
Beno Udrih
Jose Calderon

If we add just a little more salary:
Chris Kaman
Emeka Okafor
Andrew Bogut

Yup. I'm down with several options on your list - but I suspect most aren't available.

Problem is, you take Tony Allen, Giddens and Pruitt off this team and who will the "our youngs are brilliant" segment of the fanbase have to obsess about?

Of course, Turnover Tony is in his late 20s after six years as a failure in this league, so calling him a "young" is a little bit of a stretch.

Dunleavy could be a decent fit for the role we're expecting Grant Hill to play. We'd have to send Scal back though, to keep the Indy fans happy, and even then, as hard as it is to believe, they'd prob pass on our crap platter.
Lou Williams would be a great combo guy off the bench, and he does have 4 years left, so he might be a slim possibility.
We've been over Noc before, he fits well here, and Danny showed at the deadline he can work well with Petrie. Definitely a possibility.
I'd like Danny to check about Raja Bell, he'd be a great addition to the bench.

Diaw would be nice. He can play the three and also find time at the 4 and 5(small ball) when some of our bigs get in foul trouble.

the guys i would want that would be the best fit for this team would be andre nocioni, james posey, or stephen jackson

and isnt dunleavy still out with some sort of injury?

wallace would be great but i doubt charlotte is unloading salary

you could also add these guys to the list if there gm's dont see them as the future- travis outlaw, ryan gomes, matt harpring if he doesn't retire

shane battier, he is in the same sort of mold as newly acquired trever ariza, and if they collect enough expiring contracts to go along with mcgrady's they could make a run at a free agent they covet, say chris bosh to go along with a hopefully healthy yao, brooks, ariza, and scola

With the salary cap dropping (i.e. more teams paying lux tax) and owners hurting for money, there will a glut of overpaid vets looking for work with no takers. This will affect every team including the green.

Besides swapping players, as the original poster suggests,

there are also salary dumps to teams with cap room or trade exceptions for picks or cash.

To do that also requires a "need".

Teams with Cap Room and Needs:

Memphis: If OJ Mayo is Mike Conley's backup,
then Memphis needs a 2nd AND 3rd string SG (Tony or Giddens), and 3rd string PG (Pruitt or Hudson)

Atlanta: 3rd string PG (Pruitt or Hudson)

Toronto: 2nd and 3rd string SF (Walker); 2nd and 3rd string SG (Tony or Giddens)

Minnesota: 2nd & 3rd string SG (Tony or Giddens), 3rd string SF (Walker)
