Tim Thomas - can fix our back up small forward dilemma

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Wed Jul 8, 2009 8:49 pm

Tim Thomas did express an interest in joining the C's about a month ago. He can play 2 positions and would fill our much needed backup small forward spot. Plus he's an expiring contract. Then we can put full focus into resigning Marbury.

Scala & House

I know Thomas isn't as sexy as Scala, but he's a better player. Plus I've had it with House's inconsistency. One day he looks like the best player on the team and the next he's the invisible man.

Maybe in a parallel universe where Scala films Gatorade commericals, but in this one he isn't.

I've always liked Tim Thomas' game, I wouldn't be opposed to this.

Hey Tib, I love the Harry Potter books and movies. Did you see the new pics of Emma's undies...nice. Click on the pics twice to make it huge.

I'd have interest only if he got cut. Definitely not worth giving up our assets, however mediocre they are.

TT would make TA look like Einstein. His game sucks and he doesn't realize it. Wasted his career.

Not only could Tim Thomas not defend a chair, he couldn't defend a 3 legged walmart lawnchair. The greeter at walmart in the wheelchair would probably take it to the hole on him. No, no, and no. Uh... no.

No thanks. I'd rather keep Eddie and Scal.

If he was waived, I'd take him. But while Eddie can be inconsistent, you have to accept the bad that comes with the good. He's a role player, not a starter. You aren't going to find perfect backups. Eddie is what he is. An undersized 2 guard who hustles, can shoot lights out when he gets hot (and carry us for extended stretches), is a good foul shooter and makes an effort on the defensive end. I'm not trading a guy like that for Tim Thomas.

Granted, this is from Hollinger, but it still carries some weight: "Defensively, Thomas is renowned for his lackadaisical approach and will often fall asleep off the ball and lose track of his man."

Offensively, his scouting report sounds very similar to what we already have in KG and Sheed: : "An outstanding outside shooter for his size, Thomas's main skill is his ability to pull opposing big men away from the hoop and open up the middle. He's fantastic on catch-and-shoot tries, and at 6-10 he can get his shot off against most close-outs."

Except his % aren't nearly as good as Eddie's.

Thomas: FG %: 43 vs 45 for Eddie
FT%: 73 vs 79 for Eddie
3pt%: 41 vs 44 for Eddie

Both averaging around 8.5 points

Then you want to throw Scal in on top of that. No thanks.
"When I played, Larry Bird was the only one feared. A lot of black guys always ask me, 'Could Larry Bird really play that good?' I said man, Larry Bird was so good it was frightening." -Magic

I couldn't have said it better. Tim Thomas is about as useful as Antoine Walker. No very useful at all.

1) Tim Thomas hasn't been a small forward for about three years. The athleticism's been gone for a while. He's now a jumpshooting specialist 4.

2) We just signed Jannero Pargo, and if any man is capable of rendering Eddie House obselete, it be he.
