I want to read all your Ray Allen trade ideas.

Post#1 » by vct33 » Thu Jul 9, 2009 2:13 am

I posted this in another forum but I feel compelled to get it going here as well. I really, really want to see some brainstorming for possible Ray Allen deals. Remember, in a brainstorming session, no idea is a bad idea. If it works financially and is even remotely possible, throw it out there. I am fully of the opinion that Ainge must explore every option for trading Ray.

Here are a few to get things started:

#1

Phoenix

Out - Jason Richardson & Leandro Barbosa

In - Ray Allen

Boston

#2

Dallas

It's not an option until about a day or two before the deadline imo, and even then it would have to be a quite the set of circumstances to pull something like that off and walk away thinking you'll have a shot at a championship. Melo is the guy we go after if Denver falls off the face of the earth for some reason.

I would drive each and every player to the airport if we could pull the trigger on the deal landing Shane Battier (a PERFECT wing to help Pierce defending in the playoffs, also a good outside shooter), Tyson Chanlder would be a fantastic (but overpaid) 4th big man, and Kyle Lowry would be a fantastic backup point.

PG- Rajon Rondo/Kyle Lowry
SG- Paul Pierce/Eddie House
SF- Shane Battier/Grant Hill
PF- Kevin Garnett/Rasheed Wallace
C- Kendrick Perkins/Tyson Chandler

That team could win 82 games is it stayed healthy.

None of those guys are worth Ray Allen. None would give us a better shot at a title this season.

I'm not giving up Ray unless I get someone spectacular in return, ala Wade.

Kyle Lowry
Eddie House
Grant Hill
Rasheed Wallace
Tyson Chandler

Could contend for the 8 spot in the East

I disagree. I think every scenario makes us a better team in the present and in the future.

definitely one of the better proposals that i've seen but unlikely to happen at best. wouldn't really want chandler as the 4th big though.

I disagree, I think keeping Ray is the best course of action.

I hope that statement is not seen as negative. If we're brainstorming, then keeping Ray should be an acceptable option too. It's the one I prefer. Talk to me again in a couple of years.

:o

let me pick up my jaw from the floor and think what to say to that.

i guess all i can say is that you severely underappreciate what ray does for this team. in the NBA it's not about quantity, it's about quality. you should never give up the best player in a deal, unless you are trying to dump that player. in every deal, Ray is the best player. that's bad policy. furthermoe, we have a pretty good starting 5. i can't think of just about anyone who would make that starting 5 better. every SG we replace Ray with is worse, and none of the other players will beat out any of our other starters. it might make our bench better, but if it makes our starters worse, that hurts our chances.

Sure. That's an acceptable option. I think it keeps us legit for this season and maybe one more if we re-sign him. However, I also think it could lead to a decade of mediocrity.

False. Non of those scenarios make us better right now. There are so many good teams right now that it comes down to who do you have that is clutch at the end of a game. Think about us vs the Lakers next year. Its all gonna come down to big shots and Ray is a guy you want.

I don't think you aren't visualizing at any of those trades from both teams' perspective.

#1. Phoenix will be able to extend Stoudemire's contract without trading Barbosa and J-Rich. The Shaq trade has allowed them to do just that. Why would the Suns trade for Ray Allen when they aren't going to be able to keep him?

#2. Josh Howard is cheaper (though not better) than Ray Allen and Dallas has Howard's team option for 2010. Again, why would Dallas trade for Allen at the expanse of not retaining anything in the following season? Risky move for Dallas.

#3. Celtics would want no part of Deng's contract. Plain and simple. No team should be going after Luol Deng at this point.

#4. Why would Houston accept that trade? Plus, the Celtics have a frontcourt of KG, Rasheed, and Perkins. That a formidable frontcourt. They don't need Chandler.

Overall, I agree with Havlicek and co. Sometimes the best option is to not do anything. Among the players you've included, Ray Allen gives Celtics the best chance to win the title. You don't trade just because you have a massive expiring contract on your payroll.

If I were Ainge, I'd keep him, let his contract expire, and hope he'll resign with a big discount.

Considering the lack of bad contracts on this team it shouldn't be all that hard to retool. First Ray comes of the books/is a huge expiring, then Pierce, then KG. Sheed is only a 2 year deal as well. By not making moves ala signing Posey to a stupid contract Ainge has managed to keep things pretty flexible for the post-big 3 era.

edit: apparently sheed is a 2 year + a player option 3rd year.

3 weeks ago I was pretty sure that RA would be moved. However the signing of Sheed and the pursuit of Hill indicates to me that Ainge is committed to adding the necessary pieces to win again, rather than retool to win. I think this is the right strategy. Don't trade Ray is my trade idea. You often hear GM's refer to their best trades being the ones they didn't make, I think that's going to be the case here.

you couldn't get any more mediocre than what we had when Ainge arrived. 4 years later we had a championship team. the only way you have a decade of mediocrity is with bad GMing or terrible luck. we've got a good GM, so i'm not too worried.
