Sheed got 3 years

Post#1 » by ParticleMan » Thu Jul 9, 2009 2:32 am

Last one a player option.
Well not such a fantastic deal for us, but I figured they would have to do something like that.

Im happy with that....I know teh last year is his choice...but he has spoken about retirment...so might let himself be bought out for the last year cheaply?

not something to worry about right now, half way through next season this might become an issue if we are gearing up towards trying to sign a free agent.. but Ainge would work something out, and as joe said, hes talked about retirement anyway, so its probbaly just a tag on to make him feel good at this point.

Its about the now, if it means danny has to do some more work down the road to maintain flexibility to win this season then so be it

I'm fine with it. As long as it doesn't go beyond Garnett's, it's okay, though I'd have preferred two.

This puts a crimp in our 2011 Durant plans.

cuz i don't think there's any way sheed opts out.

the 3rd year player option...it's exactly what I figured it would take--to get him to sign here.

Little chance he'll opt out at that age. Might as well go after Posey now..

Durant is RFA in 2011. So I don't see any chance.

I really don't see why anyone would complain about the 3rd year----our Window is TWO years most likely---and we can trade Wallace during that 3rd year if we have to....We HAD to get him signed--this was part of the bargain--or else NO CHAMPIONSHIP in Boston.

Durant Plans? Imagine there will also be numerous other teams with Durant plans in 2011, we cant plan for him when our window is now.

Official NBA site is reporting 2 yrs. Don't know where their infor is sourced from, but they seem to only post deals that are official and I guess if anyone would know it would be them?

So, ummm, why didn't they gave Posey that MLE contract again?

Wow, wont you guys let the Posey thing go?

Posey was not morth a full MLE, IMO. Sure, he stepped up in the playoffs but Rasheed is 10 times better then Posey.

They're big on giving player options as a way to, in effect, defer money into future years.

I'm just happy when they pay up, one way or the other.

TBH, while I don't think Posey would be worth what Sheed signed for a deal, most people on this board did seem more concerned with the years on the deal Posey wanted, not so much the money. And truth is, we know Posey would be valuable to this team and could even be a trade asset down the line in the last year of his deal where he is not as effective anymore. IMO, this Posey issue will simply be forgotten if Grant Hill signs here. And then those who don't understand why we didn't just sign him to the years he wanted, will understand because Danny has a greater plan in mind than you or me.

I think Sheed getting 3 years is a reaction to the KG injury and the uncertainty that creates for the coming season. In addition, we won't have Powe and could lose Big Baby. I don't consider it to be inconsistent with how we dealt with Posey. If it was Pierce instead of KG, a small forward rather than Sheed would have gotten a similar deal. I don't think the 3 years was part of a greater plan, but that the Cs didn't want to risk not getting him.

There has been a need for a big man off the bench like Sheed all along though. A backup 3 to replace Posey has always been second most important. KG getting injured just solidified mostly everyone's thoughts about this. And yes, I'm sure the 3 years was to make sure Sheed would definitely take our offer, but Danny wouldn't do that if he didn't have a future plan in mind as well.
