Wallace now #1 free agent of c's all time?

Post#1 » by Darth Celtic » Fri Jul 10, 2009 4:48 pm

basically its either wallace or wilkins. And at the time maybe wilkins was more of a prime time player, but we all remember the d wilkins we saw in boston was not the same guy that dominated for the hawks.

when it's said and done, i'm guessing sheed will be the biggest free agent of all time for the c's.

and that might help start a trend when we rebuild. maybe some guys will want to come here again for the fans and ownership treating them right.

That's pretty amazing to think. Shows the caliber of free agents the Celtics are used to getting.

So he just narrowly beat out Scalabrine and Mark Blount right? Its not all Danny's fault because no one has really wanted to come to Boston until now. I guess when you're a winner you get things handed to you.

I'm sure if you asked Bill Walton or Tom Heinsohn they'd be like "I'll never forget where I was when Togo Palazzi was signed in 1955...."

Perhaps less so when you recall that players the Celts acquired through trades -- regular and draft-time trades considered together -- include:

Kevin Garnett
Ray Allen
Kendrick Perkins
Rajon Rondo
Bill Russell
Kevin McHale
Robert Parish
Dennis Johnson
Bill Walton

An answer to the thread question ... ABSOLUTELY!!!!! ITS ABOUT TIME.... #18 is in the WORKS!!!

during the last few weeks I 've thrown the out my dissapointment on big time fa's not wanting to play in boston... Hopefully with the likes of kg and ray ray as their most recent trade acquisitions more fa's like sheed will want to throw on the green jersey... nique was a great player but he came during a bad down turn in the c's franchise plus he was 35yrs old... x-man was a nice signing and he came during the post larry c's when they had kevin and the chief at the end of the road... I think sheed's signing will open up some eyes because it says if you want to win now you should jump on the c's bandwagon...

SIDE NOTE... rip's contract with the pistons is pretty lengthy but you never know, maybe sheed will talk danny into trading for prince as a possible replacement for ray ray after this season...

Again i think sheed's signing is huge for boston's future when it comes to free agent's available in the next few years... guys will know that after this season there will be an open spot at SF...

Blah Blah Blah BaBlah.

Under Red there was no reason for Big free agent signings and without a salary cap they were rare for any team.
In the Sixties were were stacked with Russell, Cousy, Hondo, the Jones... And that carried into the Seventies.
Then in the eighties was the original big three and we were always over the cap. In fact, ever since there has been a cap the Celtics have been over it with the possible exception of the Pitino years.

Honestly, last year was the first year the Celtics have been title contenders with a chance to spend some money on free agents and last year like this year the only money the C's have had was MLE.

It is great to think stars will play for a ring. But the truth is the have a short career and need to cash in when they can. If the Celtics were 20 million under the cap next summer with Pierce, KG, Rondo and Perkins all signed I am sure we would sign either Labron or Wade. But do you think they will sign for a ring? Hell No. And for what its worth how'd that work for Karl Malone out in LA?

I'd rather be a title contender with me stars wrapped up than a free agent player that sucks. FWIW, Posey was a better FA signing the Wilkens. Not a bigger name, but a better signing. Dominique was done when he came here. The only good that did was it got Bird (love him as a player) out of the front office.

more of an anomaly then significant fact.

None to less very cool.

Wallace will win this is he leaves BOS winning a championship. If he doesn't, I'd tie him with Posey.
