Former Uconn Huskie Marcus Williams
He's playing in the Vegas Summer League with the Grizzlies and put up some pretty impressive numbers. Do you think he's worth signing or do we have to bring in a vet for the backup spot? Of course you have to take summer league stats with a grain of salt though.

Re: Former Uconn Huskie Marcus Williams
In theory his skill set would help. I have never been a big fan but he is an excellent passer and a good 3 pt shooter. He is pretty bad defensively but I don't know how important that is as a back up pg to Rondo. I think the bigger problem is that he has shown signs of having a total **** attitude. He was decent in NJ but went to GS and didn't get the starting job and totally **** the bed so he maybe toxic.

I dont watch college basketball so I cant say I was one of them but Im sure some people wanted Tony Parker over Joe Forte, it works both ways
Either way I say no since he doesnt have the best attitude, if were gonna bring someone like that on I say Tinsley

He never impressed me, but going from NJ to GS and having to deal with Don Nelson, I wouldn't label him just yet.

yep, I don't think Don Nelson has a clue what he's doing down there. He's like a (Please Use More Appropriate Word) version of D'antoni

I wouldnt be opposed to having come in, but not as a primary backup, maybe next year, but for now, he can sit the bench

Re: Former Uconn Huskie Marcus Williams
i didn't see him in SL. is he actually in shape? if he isn't a miniature sweetney then he can be a player in this L. i always liked his game, pass-first PG.

Re: Former Uconn Huskie Marcus Williams
I really like Marcus' game. He seems to be a poised pg that can handle the ball and dish it out and maybe hit an open jumper. He'd come cheap and create some competition with Pruitt.
Competition is very important for the young players. It elevated Leon and Baby's games. I think it's also going to do the same for Giddens and Walker.

Re: Former Uconn Huskie Marcus Williams
Didn't he get 17 assists or something like that? In very limited time too. That's crazy in SL where everyone is supposed to be looking for their own shot. I don't know, we don't have very many options unless it's through trade. Probably worth looking at...

For the min he would be worth the shot. He has talent, I just don't think he's found the right team I guess.
And yes I was one of those guys who was very pissed when we passed on Williams to get Rondo. Of course I'm also a UCONN fan.

Re: Former Uconn Huskie Marcus Williams
I actually dislike UConn a lot and I really always liked Rondo's game for some reason so I was happy with that selection because I honestly thought Rondo could be this good one day. But I'm not gonna lie, I kind of thought Marcus would be close to that same level. He hasn't gotten much opportunity, but maybe on a team like this, if he got a chance as a backup he might be able to shine.

17 assists in 29 minutes. 3-9, 9 points.

But remember, it's in the summer league. Banks had something like 50 points in Vegas last year.

Re: Former Uconn Huskie Marcus Williams
Well, I'm not a huge fan, there's probably a reason that he hasn't managed to see minutes anywhere after coming into the league with a decent pedigree. That said he couldn't do much less than Marbs did last season, and I'd rather gamble on someone than sign Lue.

Re: Former Uconn Huskie Marcus Williams
Exactly, it really is low-risk, high reward. It's not like his personality that seemed to affect his teammates and their chemistry overall, will have that same affect here in Boston. We have way too many already-proven stars that won't let him do that to a locker room. The guy can shoot pretty well from what I remember of him and could find the open man. What more can you ask for from your backup PG?

Marcus Williams is one of those guys where - objectively - I concede there's a good reason his stock is as low as it is. But subjectively, I really like his game.
Memphis needs a back up PG I feel they'll make a push to sign him and Marcus Williams will prefer playing time over a chance to play on the C's.

haha, well he hasn't been in the playoffs that many times in the last decade. Maybe he's just gone senile. The only series win I can remember recently is the one against the Dallas Softies.
