Big Baby at the 3 spot?

What do you think the chances are of seeing Glenn play some sf for us this season if he is resigned?
He has that mid range shot now and moves his feet pretty well considering his size. Only listed as 6'8"/6'9" anyways.

0% would be my chances. If anything you slide KG down to SF, Big Baby just does not have the quickness to keep up with small forwards.

Well, I'm not gonna be as harsh as some other posters on you... And that's only because I heard rumors Baby was trying to drop an additional 25 points this offseason... that's just a rumor though. If that is true, I think he loses some of his potency on what his body type is designed to do, which is bully inside and position. Baby is not an excellent rebounder as it is, and has developed a decent jumper, so maybe slimming down could help his overal game. Whether is allows him to play the 3 is debatable.

The thing is what are trying to accomplish can he play SF for 5 mins in a lineup with some combo of KG, Sheed, and Perkin? Yeah especially if the SF on the other team is Kyle Korver or some stand still corner 3 pt shooter. I think you can also slide KG out on some of the more talented guys and play Baby at the 5 defensively.

Baby essentially is a SF offensively so it is just creating a situation were he can defend someone on the other end. It certainly isn't a starting line up option but if my choice is using a line up like this or doing the same thing with Scal at the SF or someone worse it is no choice at all. If you roll KG, Sheed, and Baby out on the floor together then the other team has to react to that as much as Boston has to worry about defending.

I don't actually think Baby has the o-game or d-game to be a 3. He's got that nice little jumper but he gets that shot because bigs tend to stray off of him to protect the paint and due to pick and pops. Most perimeter defenders aren't going to have a hard time staying on his shooting hand if they don't have to worry about helping off of him. He does have good feet for a guy his size but not compared to most 3's, he'd get used and abused on the perimeter defensively.
I like BBD and thought he stepped up way beyond expectations in the playoffs last year, but if he comes back this year it's going to hurt his cause IMO. He's not going to see the kind of minutes that earn you a big pay day playing behind Sheed, KG, and Perk unless one goes down hurt. As for him seeing minutes outside the 4 and 5.... highly unlikely. I think a sign and trade is in the best interest of the Celtic's and BBD, sadly.

Baby is barely quick enough to survive at the 4 spot. The 3? Are you kiddin' me? He'd wear himself out for the season trying to guard practically any SF in the NBA.

He likely doesn't play the 3 position, but that does not mean he could play out on the court at the same time as two of Perk, Rasheed, and KG. Both Rasheed and KG of the athleticism to shift to a 3-like position offensively and defensively. Because of their flexibility, Davis can be used with them at the same time and in effect, act like he's in the 3 spot.

is this a joke? can you imagine Baby having the lateral quickness to keep up with Richard Jefferson, Trevor Ariza, Ron Artest, Danny Granger, Hedo Turkogly, etc.? hell, only one of the guys listed above is even an all star. it would never work.

He is pretty quick for a 4 man though.

Why is there a notion BBD can't rebound? He's good at boxing out and getting position. He's great on the offensive glass.

he's quick at the 4 but 3 is just silly to even consider.

If he lost about 100 lbs and added a consistent 3 point shot to his game, we could probably find him a few minutes behind Ray at the 2 as well. Kevin Durant was able to play SG at 6-10. I don't see why BBD couldn't do it at 6-8, 200 lbs. The 3-point shot is a necessity though.

BBD can and will play some 3 this year. Look at the other teams backup 3's, they're all 3/4 combos with similar size and quickness. None of the backup 3's have 3pt range. We're only looking at 5 or so minutes a game.

I like a lineup with Rondo, PP, BBD, KG, and Wallace. All the bigs can shoot outside allowing Rondo and PP room to penetrate.

Maybe its just a dream of mine to roll out a big lineup instead of a small lineup once in a while.
