C`s interested in Diogu?

Diogu said "about 10 teams" have shown interest in him, including Atlanta, New Orleans, Boston, Dallas, Charlotte, Toronto, Denver and Washington.

Nothing serious I guess...

Another undersized PF but he has good wingspan and standing reach...

And he had 2 great games at the end of the last season...

I always liked him. If we lose Davis I wouldn`t mind signing him. I think he has some potential...

Diogu would be alright as a 4th or 5th big. I always thought he had more potential than he's shown so far in the league, so what the heck, I mean, he's gonna be a better choice than Mike Sweetney, right?

I mentioned him in another thread as a cheap replacement for Baby if he gets an offer sheet not worth matching, or if Baby won't be happy with roughly 10 minutes a game and we have to deal him.

Diogu's young, he can score in the post and he can rebound. Don't know much about his D but for the minimum or LLE, you can't really be too picky and we have big men who can cover for him defensively anyways if he is bad defensively. He's a bit similar to Powe- I think his post game style of offense would probably be a better fit next to 'Sheed than Davis' mid-range jump shooting or Tim Thomas' 3 point shooting.

I think this guy would be a great, under the radar pickup.

Diogu isn't coming to Boston. One thing we all should know about Danny is that he just isn't going to sign a player just to sign him. He looks at players as trading chips. Diogu doesn't bring any value to this team. That is why I think we all should wait and I might take awhile too see what going to happen to BBD. IMO I think the Cs will bring him back. For one thing he know the system and the Cs still need front count help. Second, BBD has some value and he could be a trading chip at the trade deadline to fill any need this team may have. So looking at the market right now the Cs will do 3 things. They will sign BBD to a one year deal which will allow him to become a free agent next season. Or they will match any offer he get from a team, there isn't a whole lot of money out there to spend on the buy so the Cs will match the offer. Third, they will work out a sign and trade with a team if they feel the player coming back to them is better then BBD. Either way I see BBD staying with the Cs

Ike has a fantastic post game, when he gets going he can really put some points on the board....the rest of his game is pretty lacking unfortunately, but would be nice to see him get the benefit of Clifford Ray's mystical powers.

I think we can do better than Diogu, whether it's just waiting until the trade deadline or signing someone else now.

As far as BBD, I really dont understand how the C's dont think he's worth 4 years at 16M$. I would offer him that deal and he would take it. That I'd be willing to bet.

Whether or not he's a "true" starting PF in this league is irrelevant. 4M$ is back up $. He would be our back up PF.

I b ig rotation of Ticket, Sheed, Perk and BBD would be the best big rotation in the NBA, barnone. I think Danny needs to get the this done before we regret this. He isn't Posey. He's in his early 20's, still a good 3 yrs away from his prime. He will get better.

Wouldn't surprise me in 2 years or so, people don't look at BBD as a 6M$ per yr player minimum.
Paul Pierce said it best about Caron Butler and the AS 2007 Game:

"Caron Butler should send me flowers for being injured so he could make the All-Star game, because if I was healthy, he wouldn’t be in there.”

If we lose Baby we have to get someone and he would be someone.

As for what Boston thinks Davis' value is they probably think he is worth 4 years 16 mil as well and he if he went to them and offered that type of deal they may well consider it. But they can't offer him that and have that become the baseline in negotiations, it will only cost them more. Boston has to wait it out until Baby is facing the QO or a getting a deal done and then they can find the middle ground. I am sure right now Glen Davis and his agent think he is worth the MLE.

Agreed if we lose Baby he would be perfect for the bench, I remember watching him his rookie year and being reminded of Big Al!

Diogu just strikes me as one of those physical specimens who just don't have a real feel for the game when the ball isn't in their hands. A black hole type. IMO Diogu would be more of replacement for what Powe brought to this team.

Diogu was a beast in college just like Leon Powe. I am somewhat perplexed by his availability. However, I would rather have him over Swift/Fazekas.

I agree. Varejao just got $7 mil per and Davis is already a better all around player.

Nah, Varejao has legit PF-C size, he's a better defender, he runs the floor very well and he can finish inside. Davis has some untapped potential, mostly around his conditioning and weight issues, which if he achieves he could be a better player. But Davis projects as more of an offensive weapon, with mediocre defense. Whereas Varejao can bring you KG-lite kind of roaming help defense with decent offensive skills.

Diogu wouldn't be too bad a gamble if we lost BBD.
In college he was better than Powe, had more range and was taller. Not sure what happened in the pros. He didn't have Powe's fearlessness or toughness tho.
Maybe Clifford Ray can work his magic.

I would rather see if Wilcox can fit into the Celtics system if his asking price is reasonable. Or make another attempt to sign Joe Smith.

Davis has legit PF size. Varejao is a decent help defender but Davis is a much better one-on-one defender around the paint and away from the basket. Varejao has terrible hands. He can finish around the hoop when he can actually handle the pass.

I don't think anybody on RealGM has watched the two guys play more than me. I've watched every game of Davis' pro career and I've watched Varejao play at least 120 games over the past two seasons. Given the choice, I take Davis in a heartbeat.

Well I'm an avid Celtics fan so I've seen almost every minute of Davis' NBA career and have had plenty of chances to watch Varejao play as well.

They're both role players. Varejao is more defense oriented. He's never misses defensive rotations, he shows well on P&R, he can challenge shots inside, he can clean the defensive boards, and he's just a passable offensive player. His big plus is his energy and his pesky style of play. He's the traditional glue guy/garbage man.

With Davis you get more offense and skill. He can face up and pop the mid-range, he can give you some inconsistent offense creating off the bounce or with his back to the basket. He understands defensive rotations but lacks the quickness or length to be better than mediocre as a help defender. He's a poor defender against quick PF's (Varejao isn't much better) but he is very, very solid against bigger guys who play in the paint. A poor to mediocre rebounder IMO.

Ultimately it comes down to personal preference and team needs. I think that Varejao and players like him are generally more valuable though.

The one caveat is that Varejao basically is who he is at this point whereas Davis has some room for growth, or more appropriately he has some room to slim down.

Ike can play. And he was a double double guy in coolege like Powe. In his final two games ast season, he had 31 and 11rebs and 28 and 13 rebs. Those numbers pop out.

I still hope we resign BBD and wind up with Leon. If not, I would love Ike. He is better than Sweetney. I have a feeling he is ready to breakout.

Even if we bring back Baby, I'd still want Diogu. If you can get a big guy his age with his skill level, why not go for it?
