Master Plan. FINALLY GOT IT!

Alright, I'll be the first to admit that I've thrown together some dumb trade ideas while being bored at work. A lot of us have. But I've put together a quick plan that is both REALISTIC and QUALITY.

Right now we have a 7 man rotation. Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG, Perk, House, Wallace. Throw the rest of the guys in a column with a question mark next to their name. Pruitt, Walker, Giddens, Swift, Powe, Baby, Hudson, Karl, T. Allen.

Most likely the cards WILL NOT fall into place this way, but here Here's what I do.

# 1- Resign Big Baby.
# 2- trade Scal (expiring), T. Allen (expiring), Giddens OR Walker to OKC for Earl Watson (expiring).
Watson is a nice veteran Backup PG in his last year. He's not going back to OKC, so this way Sam Presti is at least taking a flyer on a guy like Giddens or Walker.
# 3- Sign Matt Barnes OR Bruce Bowen to round out the rotation.

Rondo, Allen, Pierce, KG, Perk
Bench: Watson, House, Bowen/Barnes, Baby, Wallace

This would be a dreamy roster. Imagine how good our bench would be? ****, even if we don't resign baby we still would have Wallace, House, Bowen/Barnes, Wallace. 9 man rotation is plenty.
11-15- Walker OR Giddens, Pruitt, Swift, Hudson...Leave open a spot or two on 15 man roster.

Not bad. I think we're looking good if we can get Barns or Bruce. I not sure OKC would go for the trade, I don't think they have much use for Tony and Walker or Giddens and we're the only team that thinks Scal has any value. OKC will probably just use Watson as their back up this season then just let him walk at seasons end.

hmm ... idk how much of a master plan it is, all those ideas have been discussed before. But the Watson plan seems ok. I wouldnt mind that, but I see things a bit different. In a perfect world, i'd rather do it like this ...

1. Have Gabe Pruitt compete with the likes of Tyronne Lue or Bobby Jackson for the backup spot.
2. Sign Marquis Daniels
3. Resign BBD

Roster:

Starters: Rondo, Allen, Pierce, KG, Perkins
Bench: Pruitt, House, Daniels, BBD, Wallace, Lue, Giddens, Swift, Hudson

Earl Watson would be a very solid b/u PG for us...about 6, 6 and 3 last season on 26 MPG. He is a pretty good defender too. I would do that trade in a heartbeat. I doubt Danny is looking at him though and doubt OKC would be looking to accept.

I am not opposed to the Sign-and-Trade BBD + expirings ideas (if even do-able). Regardless of his contract Posey would be great to have back, but I haven't seen Danny do a trade since the Summer of 07'. Adding Posey and possibly adding Ben Wallace might not be bad. Ben could replace Brian as the 3rd string PF. Lue sucks but for the vet. min. I would take him for a few mins a game.

Starters: Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett, Perkins

Bench: Pruitt/ Lue, House, Posey/ Walker, B. Wallace, R. Wallace, Hudson, Swift

We have done more with less though. I expect Danny to sign who he can then shop contracts at the deadline.

if this went down i wouldn't be terribly upset but i certainly wouldn't be thrilled.

i think/hope we can do better than earl watson (who can't run a team) and matt barnes (who can't defend).

I don't know if Baby coming back here is definite, so I'd wait until after we know more on that to do a deal like this. If he isn't back here, we will be counting on Scal for a lot of minutes.

A lot of minutes...? If each of KG, Perk, and Sheed all played roughly 32 that is all the minutes at the 4 and 5 spots. Granted they might play a little less than that, the MOST I can see Scal playing is about 12 minutes a night squeezed in there somehow, unless there's foul trouble of course or if Doc wants to really rest some of his big men and likes Scal on particular matchups then we may see him out there a little bit longer on the court. But like we have seen from him in the playoffs last season, that is not a terrible option anymore. At least not nearly as bad as most thought it would be in the past.

I agree with you on that. It's looking like 10 minutes a night max from that 4th big, which is why I don't see us matching anything remotely high for Big Baby. I was just going on the assumption of random bangs and bumps throughout the season when we would need Scal to fill in during the season.

That's true. I guess the likes of Swift if he is signed since Danny loves the guy. Hopefully he can develop into someone who can at least deliver for us for spot minutes when dealing with injuries or whatever else comes our way. The other thing is, if we received a forward in any sign and trade deals SIMILAR (NOT ACTUALLY HIM) to James Posey. We can go small often with that forward at 4 a few minutes a game...

Kleiza
Barnes
Nocioni
...etc.

There are many options to fill that void.

The real problem is when one of KG, Perk, or Sheed gets injured. The likelihood of all three playing anything close to 82 games is pretty small. Then we'd have Scal as our 3rd big, which is what we had in the playoffs. Not good.

If we get BBD for $4mil/yr, he actually becomes a decent trading chip for a team in need of a solid PF at the deadline or even next offseason. That's a reasonable contract for someone of his size and skill. If it's the MLE, I think he'd be overpaid, and we'd have a much tougher time moving his contract. So it's not just about how he will help us, but what could we get for him in return.

Celts need that uber cheap defensive backup 3 who no one is looking at now...similar to Dahntay Jones with Denver last season...Barnes isn't a bad bet at being that guy for now. Could also wait and see what the Suns do with the other players they got in the Cavs deal like Sasha Pavlovic who could fit in a given role on the team.

Finally, I'd like to monitor the NOH situation. If Shinn gets even more impatient and wants to save $ he may dangle a future 1st just to unload the contracts of Mo Pete and Posey.

I like this idea.
