Not too much new in here other than nobody really can sign Baby to an offer sheet where it won't be matched. Good or the Cs I suppose, but bad for Davis.

When does free agency signing period fisnish? When does BBD have to decide?

I asked this in the Gortat thread the other day but didn't get an answer so could someone help me out?

I have never really understood about offer sheets, say the player signs a four year deal from another team and their existing team matches, does that mean the player is automatically signed to their existing team? Or can they choose not to sign it, play the final year of their old contract and become unrestricted the following season?

Once the player signs an offer sheet that is his contract whether it was the team he signed it with or with his previous team. He can probably get a better deal from Boston than a deal that starts at 3.2 mil.

At the moment Davis doesn't have much to decide. His qualifying offer will eventually expire I think in OCT. But it isn't for much more than $100,000 over the minimum anyhow he isn't going to play for that, he will holdout or go overseas would be my guess unless he gets a fair offer from Boston.

Isn't a fair offer more then anyone else? <g> Its not like other teams are competing for his services..he hasn't had any other offers!

That's very difficult to know whether he's actually received verbal interest through his agent. I don't believe teams casually put formal offer sheets in front of players, because I believe they can only have offer sheets issued for just the cap/MLE/LLE/Vet Min room they have. I.e. they can't have two full MLE offers out simultaneously.

A question for everyone. If Davis doesn't receive an offer sheet, what is the maximum figure the Celts can sign him for? Is it the LLE assuming it's not used up for someone? Are are they able to go anywhere up to full MLE value? Thanks

Its full MLE possibly higher I believe.

BBD is ending up in a bad position. There's almost nobody left who wants to sign him for anything close to the MLE. Dallas maybe but Cuban has professed a dislike for Baby. Detroit won't sign him to their capspace since the C's would easily match.

I'm not sure how the stalemate will be broken. Maybe the C's and BBD will just agree on a reasonable deal and call it a day. I'd say 4 yr, 16 mil would be fair.

The overseas thing is such a hollow threat. I mean there is what 1 player over there now as a result of making good on a threat like that?

So? That's how the UNION negotiated the free agency. If teams don't want to offer him more then the QO is best offer is the QO. Why you think it would be "unfair" if he signed that is beyond me. As for overseas - sure the C's have to match that. But how much interest is there with BBD? I don't think overweight SFs suit the less physical international game.

i think he will be offered a multi year deal around 3-3.5 mil/ year by other teams which we will wisely match.

Baby and potential employers also should keep perspective on who he is.

He is a very under sized PF who cannot play at the 5 or the 3.

He obviously can play ball and developed nicely his first 2 years, but his size limitations represent a larger issue when there is not a Perkins kind of guy to keep an opponent's big men occupied.

Baby is far more effective when Perk-a-beast is on the floor.

Finances aside (he is not going hungry no matter what happens), the Celtics are physically the best place for him now and the age of Perkins, KG and Wallace offers opportunities in the future as well.

Baby played 5 all the time, and performed admirably against Duncan, Shaq, and Howard on occasion this past season. He's undersized for sure, but he's as strong as ANYBODY in the league and thus can battle with his strength at the 5 position. His array of outside shots and dribble drives are also effective against most centers, who usually don't like to leave the lane.

The overseas thing has a little more currency with Childress going over there, but I don't think it's a realistic option for most individuals. Baby would be MUCH, MUCH better served by staying in the NBA.

No. His agent should be trying to work a sign and trade. Rasheed does everything better then BBD and is easily 6" taller. Why try to stay with the Celtics? Its not like he will get any burn. If you think your destined for stardom its a horrible idea.

Honestly, nothing is going to happen with Big Baby until the Boozer/Millsap situation gets worked out. The Big Baby camp is hoping that the loser between Utah and Portland will throw money at Big Baby. We'll see.

My guess is baby is about 6'7, not 6'9 as listed and Sheed is probably 6'10 or so. Hardly 6 inches.

Yahoo sports has Wallace at 6' 11" which I think is pretty close.

Davis they have listed at 6' 9" which I think is quite a stretch.

Who are you his agent?

I think 3.2 to start with yearly raises, and a team option for year three.
