Now I can't take credit for this trade, it's an individual from C'sblog. However, it would make for an interesting discussion here. I think this gets us a back-up PG away from No. 18

Trade Idea -- Boozer to MIA, Baby to Utah, Haslem and Moon to Cs
Apparently Utah has interest in Baby to back up Millsap. We know Miami wants Boozer. And we're interested in Moon, and size. Here's how it goes down:

BOS Trades (salary out - 8.975mil):

Baby signed for 4.5mil for 3 years
Scal (3.4mil, 1 year)
TA (2.5mil, 1 year)
Pruitt (825k option, 1 year)
2011 1st round pick

BOS receives (salary coming in - 11.2mil):

Moon signed for 3.15 mil for 2 years
Haslem (7.1mil, 1 year)
Diawara (945k, 1 year)

Utah trades (salary out - 12.6mil):

Boozer (12.6, 1 year)

Utah receives (salary in - 12.825mil):

Baby signed for 4.5 mil for 3 years
Greg Buckner (4.1mil, 1mil guaranteed, 1 year)
Scal (3.4, 1 year)
Pruitt (825k option, 1 year)

Miami trades (salary out - 10.67mil):

Moon signed for 3.15mil for 2 years
Haslem (7.1mil, 1 year)
Quinn (1.05mil, 1 year)
Diawara (945k, 1 year)
2010 2nd round pick

Miami receives (salary in - 12.6mil):

Boozer (12.6, 1 year)

Dallas trades (salary out - 4.1mil):

Buckner (4.1mil, 1 year)

Dallas receives (salary in - 3.55mil):

TA (2.5, 1 year)
Quinn (1.05mil, 1 year)
Cs 2011 1st round pick
Heat 2010 2nd round pick
cash

This should work under both cap and BYC rules.

Utah cuts Pruitt and Buckner before their deals become guaranteed, saving them 4mil in salary, or 8mil in overall money considering the lux tax. They get Baby and Scal (a Sloan type of player).

Miami dumps junk and Haslem to get Boozer.

Boston deals Baby, scraps and a pick for Moon, Haslem and Diawara.

Dallas gets picks, TA and cash from Boston and Miami to cover some of their costs. While complicated this works pretty well for all involved.

Why should Dallas get the picks and cash? They give up no one of real value, don't take on any extra salary, and don't add on any years to the contract they're giving up. If anything Utah should get the picks/cash because they're actually giving up the best player, taking back a little more salary, and the only team taking back a guy that runs longer than what they gave up so more long-term cost.

My personal opinion though is that such a deal becomes way to complicated to realistically happen.

I think the Buckner contract is only partially guaranteed and thus attractive. It's basically an expiring..

Dallas takes this and runs, maybe kills someone in the process

Pretty good deal. I'd certainly be happy with it.

I don't think there's any reason for Dallas to get a 1st round pick just to give up a no-name player with a favorable contract.

Utah should get something more for giving up Boozer. If anything the picks should go to them. But I think it's fine without us giving up a 1st rounder. Maybe a 2nd rounder.

We just saw a 4-way trade happen this offseason. So it's not like these things don't happen.

I think any of these types of trades will involve a team under the cap so people don't have to pay guys like Scal for the season.

POR gets Haslem for cap space

Utah trades Boozer to Miami and gets Big Baby

Miami gets Boozer for Haslem and Moon

Boston trades Big Baby and gets Jamario Moon

This is pretty complicated but it should work.

Bascially Utah uses a portion TPE of 7.1 mil (assuming POR is that far under the cap) created by sending Haslem to POR to do a S&T for Davis. Boston then uses the TPE created from that deal to do a sign and trade for Moon.

I have no idea how BYC is impacted by the use of TPE but assuming the rules are the same then Baby's deal would have to be front loaded (likely a killer for Utah) and be for the MLE and it can reduce in the future to create an exception large enough for Boston give Moon a deal that starts at 2.9 mil. But hopefully the BYC wouldn't apply and because of POR's cap space and they could both just get 4 mil dollar deals.

Well it would cost Cuban about $5 million for those picks. It's not like they're free..
