Boston is working on a sign-and-trade for Daniels

Indiana free agent Marquis Daniels could be headed to the Boston Celtics by next week as part of a sign-and-trade deal still being discussed by the two teams, according to two NBA sources.

"I'll be with a contender. That much I can say with certainty,'' Daniels said Friday at his Feed the Children charity event in Orlando, just a couple of miles from where he grew up. "There still are a few options, but I've pretty much got my mind made up. Just some small details have to be worked out.''

One of the names being discussed as part of the sign-and-trade is Celtics power forward Brian Scalabrine, who is going into the final year of his contract making $3.5 million.

The sign-and-trade would allow the Celtics to pay him more than the $1.9 million exception that they would have to use to sign him outright as an unrestricted free agent. Daniels had been asking teams for something closer to the mid-level exception.

not bad at all.

daniels can back up at 3 spots.
he would be a nice PG alongside house because he can guard SGs.

i guess it depends on what we end up paying him, but he's a legit talent, even tho he can't shoot for s***.

We must be giving something else. Even I know this is totally lopsided.

Heck they can have Eddie, his kid and their little dog too.

yeah probably one or two of those guys.

but Indy is losing Daniels anyway. he's a UFA. so it's not like they really should expect to get much in return.

The Marquis of Boston is on his way. Now we just need a cheap back-up point..

You don't think Tinsley's involved right? I just looked at his contract, he's making too much money for a guy that hasn't played.

For Daniels, you can have House. But leave Boston with Walker, I still want to give him another look.

 ..nah man..Eddie is our sniper off the bench..he can change a game..I would hate to give him up..after he picked his option to play for us..wouldn't that be kind of like an slap in the face to Eddie??

He had a really good first half of the season last year. Quite a bit of scoring, and he usually had to guard the other teams' best perimeter player. Can't shoot the three, but he'd be a great 6th man imo. And he plays hard, a scrappy type who would fit in perfect with the guys.

^Nah, we need to keep House for his shot, because Daniels is not a good shooter.

haha, Slap away, Eddie is too inconsistent. Daniels can effectly play shooting guards night in and night out.

having a guy like Daniels makes Eddie a lot more valuable. it's a nice pairing. it wouldn't make sense to trade Eddie to get Daniels. it's like trading butter to get maple syrup.

I don't think it would take much more than Scala obviously. Daniels is a very good all-around player, however he has been injury prone. I think the Pacers would like a little cap relief and maybe a second rounder so they don't have to resign him..
