Flip Murray or Anthony Carter?

Post#1 » by JHTruth » Sat Jul 18, 2009 5:52 pm

Either one of these guys seem to be available. Could we do a S&T with say a TA for either one?

I love Flip Murray, but the last thing ATL needs is another guard, already having Joe J, Crawdord and Bibby.

Anthony Carter is a very solid player. I guess he could be available. I mean, they did lose Dahntay Jones and they added Lawson. Lawson could replace his min at the PG and TA could fill in for Jones at the 2.
Paul Pierce said it best about Caron Butler and the AS 2007 Game:

"Caron Butler should send me flowers for being injured so he could make the All-Star game, because if I was healthy, he wouldn’t be in there.”

I have no idea why Flip Murray was not signed last year as he was signed for a little over $1 million and would have been a big help. Although he is listed at 6'3" to 6'4" he plays bigger than that and could have been that swing player the Celtics never had last year to backup SG/SF for some offensive spark.
But now with the apparent Marquis Daniels signing, a move towards Murray is not probable and. would certainly be the end of Eddie House. Anthony Carter could be an adaquete backup PG for the vet minimum.

There aren't enough minutes for them. With the addition of Daniels, there's only about 10 mpg behind Rondo. I don't think those guys want to play so few minutes. An older backup like Lue or Bobbie Jackson would do.

anthony carter would be perfect for 10-12 mins behind rondo. i think he'd do it for a title, he's getting ancient.

for our team, flip murray isn't much of a need with Ray and Eddie.

To me it's Carter.

You're giving us a choice between a veteran PG that would back up Rondo for 10 minutes a game or so - something we are definitely looking for considering that House can't handle the ball and Pruitt often plays like a scared school girl - and a SG who has no real skills besides scoring. He can be an offensive spark off the bench but I'll take the guy who understand how to set the table for the rest of the team.

I thought it was Lue they were going after for the backup PG position?

Stephon Marbury. No Lue, Carter or Murray.

Definitely Marbury if he wants to come back. However, if the Celtics are looking at other PGs, then that means Marbury is still up in the air.

neither of those two; rather try to get marbury. if anything let eddie play the point alongside daniels and see how that goes.

Give me Carter. The guy has good passing skills, can shoot a little bit (albeit erratically), and most importantly is a true point guard. Flip Murray is a 'scoring guard' in the truest sense of the word. If we didn't have Eddie House around already as an 'instant offense' type of player, I'd say fine, but we do.

Right now, depending on how the Daniels deal works out, I would prefer one more big or a PG. I think everywhere else we have really shored our team up nicely. While I was disappointed we missed out on Anthony Parker for so cheap, Daniels is a fine (perhaps better?) replacement.

I would be annoyed as a fan if we trade either Scal or Tony for a back-up PG. Wtf ... we can get much better value for their expiring contracts than a veteran PG who won't wee much court time any way.

Vet. min. if anyone wants it. But NO trading for a PG.

I like earl watson the best of the bunch although any of these guys being discussed would be an upgrade-even marbury with a full training camp behind him

I'd be fine with Marbury, Lue, or Carter. I think all three can get the job done for 10 minutes a game for the Celtics.

Carter over Murray for our team at least.

But yes, Marbury if he decides to come back here.
