As much as it has been reported, I think this is the first article that mentions Daniel's agent concurring which is what really counts. When he was scheduled to make $7.3 million and it is possible to only make $1.9 million, the commitment from the player AND agent is a good thing. Reading between the lines if both the Celtics and Daniels wants a sign and trade, it sounds like the Celts definitely have plans for the $1.9 biannual exception. Why else would they want to give up an expiring contract, pay more salary to Daniels, and more luxury tax? I guess another theory may be to actually save money, a roster spot to see what shakes out with Swift, Hudson and Powe.

A sign and trade also allows the Celts to get Daniels along with his Bird rights as well as effectively signing him to a multiyear contract.

If they sign an biannual exception, they lose the exception for next year (it is BI-annual) when surely there will be some quality FAs who fall through the cracks with all the big names sucking up big money.

But also they would be stuck in the same situation they had with Posey, one year deal with a player option on the second. No doubt Daniels would exercise the option next year when his value will be a LOT higher after a deep playoff run with the Cs. Locking him in now with a good salary for multiple years is the way to go.
