DETROIT wants to S&T for big baby

Post#1 » by Papa Irish31 » Mon Jul 20, 2009 5:38 am

marc spears twittered that even though detroit signed wilcox they are still interested in completing a s&t for big baby

if you want the link go visit my good friends at redsarmy.com, redsarmy asked the question who would you want to take back from the pistons

my answer: a resounding DAJUAN SUMMERS, now that would be an excellent move by danny

I never feel extremely confident when discussing my opinions on draft prospects who I think will be busts, because I don't follow college ball too closely, but...

What worries me is that if you look at all the NBA players Summers (who was a three year guy) gets compared to, they all posted noticeable better rebound/steal/block numbers. The rebounding is concerning because he had great size for the NCAA and wasn't even playing alongside other great rebounders. And, in conference play, the only statistical category he ranked top 10 in (in his conference, not the nation), was "Turnovers."

http://statsheet.com/mcb/players/player ... rt3=fg_pct

You may note that, in fairness, in '07-08 he did rank 4th in his conference in foul outs.

So, I'm skeptical.

some of the guys at hoopsworld who have watched him in summer league action say he is there consensus steal of the draft

i think he can be a great role player in this league, he defends well and can knock down threes

he isnt a stats guy, think shane battier is a guy that his style of play reminds me of

But even Battier (who is a stats guy) was way better in college in terms of rebounds/steals/blocks. Even as a 19 year old freshman.

Even if you look at James Posey, same deal,

http://statsheet.com/mcb/players/player ... rt3=fg_pct

Even Matt Harpring...

In fact even Scal and Jared Jeffries were both better rebounders and shot blockers, even if only by a slight amount.

This is Marc Spears, not some random guy, its no different then if he posts it on yahoo sports, the globe site or twitter its the same source just a different medium there is a big difference between mark spears twitter or chad ford's twitter and some random guys twitter.

in the nba battier is not a stats guy, in college he was

and thats probly the reason all of those guys were taken in the 1st round and summers was not

stats or not he is a guy that can do a above average to good job guarding big threes or small fours next year, while also hitting a high percentage of threes

im not saying he is a great player, im just saying if we do a s&t with portland he is by far the guy i want from that team, jonas jerebko a distant second

I've never even heard of Summers. I'd rather trade Baby for someone I have heard of. I doubt they would do it, but I'd try and get Prince. If they said no I'd hangup the phone. Because I'm sure there's a lot of teams with good offers on the table.

I thinke Detroit is in a rebuilding process. They may be ready to deal Rip and Prince. Rip got 4 years left on his contract. If I were Dumars, I would want him gone and try hard to find a taker. I would settle for Prince since our sf position is wide open.

Maxiel sucks. Detroit made a mistake in giving him $5M a year. No thanks. Just keep Baby and call it a day.

I love it how people are saying that they would "settle" for Prince in a S & T. haha. Newsflash: Detroit is NOT sending us Prince or Hamilton.

Id take Maxiell for $5m a year but he hasnt met expectations so far in his career. I think playing next to KG and having Clifff Ray work with him could make him a Beast!

Well why would they send us Prince or Hamilton when they could send us Prince and Hamilton!

Players don't magically become good just because they play next to KG. He played next to Rasheed and was still no good. Baby is better, might as well keep him.

^^^ LMAO. What exactly is BBD so much better at. What a bunch of homers on this board.

Maxiell career TS% .614. BBD .526.
Maxiell career TRB 12.3 BBD 9.7
Maxiell career BLK% 4.5 BBD 1.6.
Maxiell career scoring (Per 36) 12.6 BBD 11.8

Just because you like someone better doesn't make them better. <g> in short Maxiell rebounds, better, scorers more efficently, blocks more shots, and scores at a higher clip. Thats usually the better PF.

OTOH I am not dying for this trade because backup PF/C is not such a huge need with Wallace on board.

You obviously didn't see BBD in the playoffs. He is two times better than Max.
