Re Multiple Ongoing Rondo Trade Scenarios
Rondo is not being traded for anyone not named Chris Paul or Deron Williams (maybe Rose but that ain't happening), In other words, he's not getting traded this off-season.
Forget any scenarios involving him. Hard to believe how under-valued he is. I'll take him over TJ any day - even without a jump-shot, and I know I'm not alone on this...

If Rondo was going to be traded, he would have been done by now.

i think the possibility of a rondo trade ended when sheed committed to sign with us, and probably a little before that too
danny was never going to trade him unless he got twice his value back

We didn't get KG till July 31st or something like that. I do agree that nothing will happen unless we get CP3 or something crazy like that.

Rondo is here to stay; unless we do some amazing trade for someone like Williams/Paul/Harris(unlikely).

I wonder why they wanted to trade Rondo in the first place. Why would the Celtics mess up their core when they had won a championship with it?

Re: Re Multiple Ongoing Rondo Trade Scenarios
Rondo is in the mold of Jason Kidd. He already won a ring and got like 8 great years left at least.
I don't think deron or cp3 will ever win one and they are the only player i'd take back.
A player either has it or he doesn't Rondo has it.

Meh. Rondo is on the block till he signs an extension. That being said I think he probably won't go anywhere in the short term. But anything less then a championship this year while unsigned and he could be moved..

Re: Re Multiple Ongoing Rondo Trade Scenarios
The Pistons deal and the 5 and 6 picks for Rondo that we offered were interesting...
Rasheed balances out our end of the game lineup a little better now...there is only one guy out on the floor who can't shoot.

Yeah, Rasheed gives us another dimension.
I'd only trade Rondo for CP/D-Will/Rose or something like that.

Re: Re Multiple Ongoing Rondo Trade Scenarios
In a way this is a bizarre thread. Rondo is the key to whether we win a flag in 2010. He is the wild card. If he plays like he did in portions of last season and in the Bulls series, the Cs will be favorites to win it all, assuming the other key players remain healthy. Rondo was the best player on the team for portions of last season and will have to assume that role for spring of 2010 if we are going to get past the tall timber in the NBA playoffs.
Sure, trade Rondo for Paul or DWill if you can but otherwise this is suicidal. Trading Rondo to dump him for anything short of a superstar derails our title hopes.
Rondo is not a perfect player. He is a work in progress. He may never get much better than he is now, which is a top 7-10 point guard in the league.
But odds are he will improve, and a good deal. Chris Paul and Magic are the exceptions. The great point guards of the past two decades-- Nash, Payton, Stockton, Kidd, Billups -- all took a few seasons and often until their mid-20s to hit their stride. Rondo is very much on or ahead of schedule.
There is a distinct chance, maybe 1 in 4, he could become a top 10 player in the league within three years. Let's have him do that in Boston. And if we trade him, trade him high so we have a chance to get a young top 10 player in return. Otherwise, thanks but no thanks.

I can't think of too many better fits than Sheed to place with Rondo. He spreads the floor for him on offense and can play good helpside D when Rondo gambles. If you can just do that with Rondo on your team, you're going to fit. The fact that Sheed offers us so much more is just icing.
Rondo isn't going anywhere.

These are the people that have to worry. And the only way any of them will have an effect on us winning a championship is if they brought someone to contribute for us in Boston.

Rondo was never the best player on the team. But honestly this "key' crap gets old. If we lost any of the big 3 to injury we would be in trouble. Would win without Pierce? No. He is the "key" then. How about "KG" if we lost him he would be "key.'

Re: Re Multiple Ongoing Rondo Trade Scenarios
Rondo was the best player on the floor in the Chicago series. If he played at that level for an entire season he would be among the five or ten best players in the league. He may never play that well again, but it is just as likely that he will get even better.
We are all getting bored and anxious waiting for the roster decisions to be made final. Posters are chewing on table legs. These Rondo threads are asinine. I will see you guys when there is news.

How soon we forget how good Rondo was in a 7 game Chicago series...

And then how average he was against a team that actually played defense...

Re: Re Multiple Ongoing Rondo Trade Scenarios
He's getting overrated quite a bit by our fans at this point due to his playoff performances. He's still very inconsistent and showed it at the end of the playoffs. Don't overvalue him. Keep in mind Scal had a great playoff run before he signed with us.

Re: Re Multiple Ongoing Rondo Trade Scenarios
really? show me another 23 year old guard who has had a playoff series like Rondo in NBA history? I will save you some time: Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson. There is no list of 23 year old guards who had brilliant series and then crappy careers. Rondo is a force.
To compare what Rondo has done with Scal is absurd.

I would say that it is. He's closer to Oscar Robertson than he is to Brian Scalabrine. He put up RIDICULOUS numbers in that Chicago series. If we had somehow lost it, and he didn't play in Orlando, the anti-Rondo crowd would be a lot quieter.
I'm not saying he's Magic or Robertson but to answer your question, yes, it is less absurd to compare Rondo to them than it is to compare him to a career bench player.
