Danny's not done......

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 11:47 am

Boston did offer Davis and guards J.R. Giddens and Gabe Pruitt to the Pistons for forward Jason Maxiell and a first-round pick, but was quickly turned down.

Well, that is an interesting offer. Not surprised it got turned down though. Davis and Maxiell are pretty equal and I can't see Giddens and Pruitt being worth a 1st right now. They haven't proven they are worth a 2nd.

I think Davis > Maxiell, otherwise why Detroit want to sign Davis when they have Maxiell already?

I agree that Davis is better but the first rounder is the deal breaker. They aren't going to be a very good team if they stand pat over the next 3 years. That should be a solid pick. Nice try Danny.

Why are we so willing to trade Davis?

Does DA believe Rasheed, PP, RA, KG, will play forever?

Is ainge trying to build a detroit-boston hybrid? Look at the deals he has done/offered.

-Signed sheed.
-Offered Ray/Rondo for Rip/Prince/Stuckey
-Offered Baby/Pruitt/Giddens for Maxiell

I don't know what his thoughts were/are. But that would have been a nice deal for us. I like Maxiell a lot.

It's the pick. Draft, Develope and Deal. Danny is trying to concetrate our developed talent into future draft option. So soon after the Garnet deal, too.

The nice thing is that this is or could be a win win, especially for teams that draft poorly. Time or us to cash in the chips.

Davis had a very good year. Giddens did too. He dominated in the development league. For a championship team, it is about as much as you could expect from a 30 pick. Pruitt I don't think there is much there. PG is tough and he's young. Lot of nice prospects for teams that do not draft well. The draft pick they give up is in the future and they'll likely screw the pick up anyways.

Danny will find a taker. It's a win - win, straight out of Covey's play book.

That's proabably a counter offer after Detroit asked for Maxiell for Big Baby straight up.

And whoops, Did I say in another thread New Jersey didn't want Big Baby? But New Jersey would only do a sign and trade, not a basic signing since they want to keep their cap space for next summer.

And... like Yahoo.com mentioned a week ago: Why doesn't Portland just go after Odom with all their money? They'd hurt the Lakers and help themselves. He'd help them and allow them to deal off Outlaw for a point guard.

Back to Davis: This is a fascinating game. Lots of teams want him but no one wants him enough to sign him to an offer sheet and risk getting matched. The Celtics have received and sent lots of sign and trade offers.

It shouldn't be too much longer until Baby's fate is determined.

I look at this from an arbitrage point of view and these kinds of deals really increase our level of talent. The big chip that we're offereing on this is Davis and he has made it cler, he's about maximising his cash flow. Nothing wrong with that.

From our point of view, he's second round pick whom we've invested two years of development in. Many teams look at him and see a starting caliber PF / C. Maybe not on the Celtics, but on their team. He is also a fan favorite.

Anyways for us getting picks is huge, as a pick in DA hands is far more valuable to us, than pretty much any other team. Everyone tht plays is going to win here.

Danny Ainge is just playing the restricted free agent game. If some team wants to overpay for his retricted free agent (Big Baby) then Ainge will do a sign and trade otherwise he will just resign Big Baby like he really wants to anyways.

That's what I was thinking. I would have liked that deal. Not a bad attempt by DA. I wonder if there will be any legs to this though. Like another counter offer from Detroit.

Oh boy, I'd love to replace Baby with Maxiell but Danny acted too late we could''ve had Maxiell & Afflalo for Baby last week.

This is interesting because Giddens was a first round pick, and Pruitt has actually shown more than him.

This means that either Danny thinks Giddens won't pan out or he thinks Detroit is going to suck bad enough to have a lottery-mid first round pick.

I think he really wants the pick because the way next year's draft is shaping out, we could find a stud in the late lottery where Detroit may pick. And that guy > Giddens at least. And while we're at it, pick up Maxiell. Would anyone oppose to this same deal if we added in our own first round pick so the two teams swapped? I wouldn't.

Wiretaps last week or so were Detroit trying to trade Afflalo & Sharpe for more cap space.

I've always been impressed with Maxiell. I think he and Sheed would play great together as they have already demonstrated significant chemistry together. Hey if you get a decent big and maybe a back-up point in any deal, then you have to look at killing two birds with one stone..

I'd be game for getting Maxiell. That fast break block he had against KG was sick.

Maxiell is pretty ugh. He is 6'5" and is making 5 mil a season for the next four years. I don't know if Davis is worth that money and I think he is a better player.
