Are the Celtics the heel of the 09-10 NBA season?

Post#1 » by Dirty Water » Tue Jul 21, 2009 2:45 pm

Looking through our roster, I can't find one identifiable player that opposing fans actually like. Our frontcourt is ridiculous.

-We all know the hate people have for Sheed, with the smoking, complaining and Ts

-KG has garnered a lot of hate after he joined the Cs for his cocky antics. Most notably getting on all fours, gauranteeing championships, and his overall demeanor.

-Perkins has been labeled around the league as a complainer, and should become Sheed's BFF. Perk is also as a player who "thinks he's a lot better than he is."

-Even Big Baby (if we were to resign him) is hated just for being fat, loud and annoying. And I'm sure Magic fans don't take too kindly of him with his game-winning shot in Game 4 and his push on the 12-year old kid.

-Ray Allen used to be in the category of one of the classiest players in the league, but he's been sort of digging his own grave in that regard lately. That nut shot of Sideshow Bob was classless, but I can't say that mophead didn't deserve it.

-PP just gets general superstar hate. His wheelchair antics in the finals and self-proclamation that he's the best player in the NBA irked some people the wrong way.

-Now let's get started on Rondo. Last years playoffs were a good indication of how much a heel this guy has become... he shoved Kirk Hinrich into the stands, slapped Brad Miller in the head in a crucial play. His terrific play in the playoffs only cemented his legacy here. My feeling is that opposing fans can't fathom that there is another star besides the Big 3, and don't want to see Rondo succeed, because then their team is eff'd.

-There isn't too much to hate about House, other than his scrappy play can be seen as quite annoying. Rafer Alston can vouge for me on this one.

-New aquisition Marquis Daniels has had his fair share of personal problems. The ridiculous tattoo he has doesn't help his cause in the like-ability department.

-Tony Allen has had death threats when we were on the road in the playoffs. No further comment.

-Scal has to be the most likeable player, but he is what he is. Can't say he's hated, although he was severely so on this board in the past.

The rest of the roster isn't rounded out yet so it's hard to judge on that. But as it stands, we will be the enemy going into this season. IT will be like a WWF event and we are the bad guys. The heel. And that's the way Boston Celtic basketball should be, in my opinion :D.

I like being the bad guys, and wouldn't have it any other way.

I absolutely love it when the Celtics get hated on. Why? Because no one hates **** teams. For example, off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone on the Clippers that I despise. Same thing goes for Bucks, Kings, and Thunder. However, when you look at the Final 4 from last year, I could easily name Kobe, Odom, Lebron, Sideshow Bob, Mo Williams and K-Mart as despicable players. Orlando is the only exception, since there really isn't anyone I hate on that squad. Part of it comes from having likeable players. Part of it comes from them being pusscakes.

This Celtic team has a chance to become one of the most hated teams in NBA history, joining the Bad Boys from the late 80s, and even Pat Riley's group of thugs from New York. Detroit had Isiah, Rodman, Laimbeer, and Mahorn. New York had Oakley, Mason, and Starks. Boston has Rondo, House, Perk, KG, Sheed, and if Billy Walker can get any PT, he'll surely join the list of hateable players.

I love having despicable players on the team too - keeps the bandwagon fans off the cart. Go cheer for those pusscakes in LA and Orlando. Thanks.

I actually agree with this post. After all, we don't have any rapists on our team.

Exactly what you want on your team. If opposing fans were throwing roses at the feet of our players when they entered their arena, then we're doing something wrong. The funny thing about most players that are reviled by opposing fans, is that the same fans would love them if they they wore the uniform of their home team. I think Sheed is a perfect example of this. He was a villain to the Garden faithful when he wore the Pistons' uniform, but watch how quickly these same fans grow to adore the former villain once he dons the green.

This is a total stretch. Pierce is a rather outgoing jokester kind of guy. And I believe quite popular in NBA circles. KG is well respected for his intensity by fans everywhere - as well as players and coaches. And Ray Allen is loved as an elder statesman.

The fact that some of the lessor players have issues doesn't place us on the most wanted list. <g> The Lakers have two moody unpredictable players in Kobe and Artest who don't seem popular at all around the NBA or with fans. And those guys are stars.

Don't listen to real GM haters. We could have Nash as our PG and he would get hated on around here. That doesn't mean anything. I bet all three of our big three have pretty good Jersey sales.

Kobe isn't popular among NBA fans? Did I read that right?

Im a raptor fan and i shouldnt be liking you guyz after you came back and took the division but for a strange reason i do. You have some very likable players like rondo is my favourite pg to watch because he is so electrifying and fast. I like Kg because of his passion but at times it can be a bit much, sheed is a funny guy and perkins locked up howard and i hate the magic i hope they suck last year was a fluke
