Any more moves?

Post#1 » by titlebound1 » Wed Jul 22, 2009 2:23 am

Assuming Danny is able to resign BBD, should we just call it an off season? Or still target a PG or wing for the bench? Orlando seriously re tooled the other day adding Barnes and Watson...And Cleveland made their splash adding Shaq and Moon. At this point the east is a toss up...Even though I certainly believe that we have the most talented and deepest roster of the big 3 in the conference. But what happens if (God forbid) Rondo goes down? We would pretty much be screwed. He plays like a maniac at times...He could easily get hurt. I'm not comfortable at all with Pruitt as a back up either. The rest of the rotation is okay...I think...But Rondo might just be the most important player on the roster. Losing him would be a massive blow. I think we need to try to add a vet PG...Someone who can come in, eat minutes and run the offense. I realize the pickings are very slim...But there are still PGs to be had for cheap.

I think Danny might be done until the deadline though.

Marbury would be ideal. But I'd be willing to gamble on Pruitt.

I'd love to see Marbury come back. He could be one of the better back up PGs in the league...He just needed a little more time to learn and run the offense.

He's said a few times now that he's not going to resign with the celts though. Maybe he won't get any other offers...Which is a very real possibility. But if we do manage to land him, I think we can say that we had the best off season that we could have hoped for.

I agree we need a vet PG.

It depends on what happens with Daniels. If we do a sign and trade then we will probably send out pruitt as part of it, so then we need to go sign a backup PG. we probably need one anyway.

Speaking of Steph, he's giving the Celts and Boston lots of love on his broadcast.

How about we bring in Erick Strickland, Dan Dickau, Shammond Williams and Jiri Welsch for a workout?

1) I still think we need a veteran PG to spell Rondo for 15 mpg and relieve House of any and all meaningful PG duties (Royal Ivey?)
2) BBD will be back (for the qualifying offer or a matched offer sheet), or he'll be in a S&T to bring back similar big man depth
3) If he's just hanging around out there, I'd love to bring Ime Udoka into the fold - solid defender, glue guy, can hit a 3, additional wing depth to keep RA and PP mins down
4) Whether it's Swift sticking or someone coming in on a min deal, I'd like one more big for the deep bench (Francisco Elson?)
Of course, in my scenario, 2 of Pruitt/Giddens/TA/Walker have to go, but so be it...(I'd lose Pruitt and TA)
PG - Rondo, Ivey, (House/Daniels)
SG - R. Allen, House, (Daniels), Giddens*
SF - Pierce, Daniels, Udoka, Walker*
PF - Garnett, BBD, Scal**
C - Perkins, Sheed, Elson**
* Inactives
** Rotating inactives

Daniels, Big Baby and Marbury and call it a great off-season. Later on sign Leon Powe.

This is how I see it...bring in Marbury and re-sign BBD.

1. KG
2. Paul
3. RA
4. Perk
5. Rondo

6. House
7. Daniels
8. Sheed
9. BBD
10. House
11. Walker
12. Giddens
13. Pruitt
14. Scal
15. TA

See how camp goes and make a decision on borderline guys Pruitt/Swift/Lester/Walker/Giddens/etc.

Then half way through the season depending on the play of the borderline guys (Pruitt/TA/Scal/etc.) we can make a deal using expiring contracts and building the young guys value so that we can sell high for an impact player for our run at the chip.

I am never in favor of "throw-ins" in trades. Guys like Walker and Giddens may have some real value and we need to build it up before we trade them.

So long as Marbury doesn't come back, it'll be a great offseason.

I disagree. Scalabrine is a great 5th big especially on the Celtics.

We'll pull a S&T for Daniels, sign BBD and Marbs and then call it an offseason. End of the bench will be settled in camp, and we'll leave a spot open for Powe if he gets healthy and wants to play for the vet min..

I'd rather have a high quality 8 man rotation than a 9-10 man rotation when there's about 85-90 minutes for the bench.. Marbury, Daniles & Wallce would be a great bench. I'd like to see Ainge turn BBD & House into picks and vet insurance, and pick up Tim Thomas with the $1.9 mil. LLE.

*Assuming a S&T is worked out for Marquis Daniels (TA and Pruitt)

Here is what I hope the roster will look like.

-STARTERS-
01. PG Rondo
02. SG Ray
03. SF Pierce
04. PF KG
05. C Perk

-BENCH-
06. FC Sheed
07. GF Daniels (S&T TA and Pruitt)
08. G House
09. PG Marbury (LLE)

-Matchup Minutes-
10. PF Baby (match offer sheet/QO)

-Garbage Minutes-
11. SF Bill Walker
12. SG JR

-Inactive-
13. F Scal
14. PG Lue (vet. min.)
15. C Bobby Swift (vet. min.) *(IF Leon Powe is still available, comes back fully healthy, and Swift doesn't show too much promise, release Swift and sign Leon.)

Perk 32 / Sheed 16
KG 32 / Sheed 16 / Baby
Pierce 32 / Daniels 16
Ray 32 / Eddie 16
Rondo 36 / Steph 12

Would BOS be interested in a Telfair for Tony Allen swap?

The Celtics already have a ton of wings and Pruitt is the only PG after Rondo, since House is really a SG.
