Why do we need to have so many damn kids?

Why do we need so many young guys on the bench? I think we should build a veteran core around the big 3. We've already got Perk and Rondo at the very important positions to build around when the big 3 are gone.

Because there is a future after the Big 3.

and it's not that far away.

Sheed, Daniels, House, and Scal are all vets that are 28+, what are you talking about?

Because you generally don't draft 45 year olds.

Assets.

And I for one am glad we did not get Hill. You don't build a championship team grabbing ever former all star you can find. You need a mix.

I like the mix of old and young bodies on a roster. But damn c'mon Cfan we essentially have 3 young guys and one unsigned 2nd rounder, there are 3 roster spots we don't even use on a nightly basis. Young guys are cheap. Beyond that our 3 youngest guys played the best ball in the postseason last year.

Cfan, I'm one of the few who doesn't think your trade ideas are completely wack

but this is a low moment

^ I hear that. His trade ideas are certainly not "completely wack".

Cuz that would be an obscenely generous under-statement.

I think this should be a private argument between you and the wife.

it has nothing to do with the "future." Young players are cheap way to fill out your roster. Pruitt and company are not going to form our "core." It never works like that. Once the big 3 is gone Ainge will either make some trades for some quality vets or we will endure a long rebuilding period where we draft talent high in the draft (as those make that make a real NBA impact.) This is now more true then ever because Stern screened out the HS guys who would get undervalued.

Mostly it's because young players are cheap and bring back good value, the second is, in February when you want to rest some starters, the best way to do that is go with fresh young legs.

You need youth and enthusiasm somewhere on the team.

guessing by the time the season opens our kids will be walker, gidd, hudson, rondo, and maybe perk (depends on what u call a kid) and baby 50/50.

I expect the core rotation next season to be:

Perk Sheed
KG (Sheed) Baby
Paul Daniels
Ray (Daniels) House
Rondo Starbury

All of them are veteran enough to be appropriate contributors.

If up to 5 other roster spots are used on "kids", so what?

I see what you're saying, but couldn't we get vets on the cheap for the same price. They won't have as much value down the line, but they're more dependable.

P.S. thanks for the trade idea props Andy

Disagree, i think it definitely does have to do with the future.
It's not money. You could always get a bunch of min vets to fill out a roster.

I think your 1-8 should be vets. But beyond that, if anyone is getting big PT (especially in the playoffs), then we've been struck by injuries big-time and it's OVAH. we ain't winning squat.

what do you do if you're not going to win? you DEVELOP. otherwise the year becomes a complete waste.

so the bottom of your roster, 10-15, should most definitely be filled out by proimising kids. They shouldn't be getting much PT (except in emergency) until they earn it in practice. But BBD and Powe both managed to make the rotation. Giddens and Walker have a chance.

It's by having guys like these around that you can then entice someone to give you a quality player at the deadline. Nobody is going to give you crap for some crusty old vet. But if JR or Bill or Gabe is showing up big in limited minutes, maybe someone will take a chance on potential. Together with an expriign contract or two, and maybe a pick, suddenly we're in the game to bring back exactly the quality player we need to put us over the top. Last year was an example of what happens when you DON'T have that; you end up picking up the Mikki's and Marbury's of the world.

DA built the team on a long term vision of the 3 D's, - Draft, Develope and Deal. This is how DA raises the level of talent on the team. He perceives college players' future more accuarately than most GM's, so he drafts very well. The Celtics have heavily invested in their development staff. From time to time DA takes the young players we've developed and consolidates the talent into veterans, future picks and trading assets.

We do not need to have so many damm kids, but we use the 10th through 15th spots and sometimes more to improve the talent level on the team. We buy low and sell high. We need future 1st round picks round 15 to 20 to get nother Rondo or Big Al.

Yep, I'm not afraid to admit it either. I kinda warmed to the KG idea once we got Ray Allen though.
