Big Three Pay cuts, Trades, & New Contracts to the young
Proposed Roster
Starters...........Backups..........12-man................15-man (Keep?)
Pierce.............Posey..............(Powe).................Lester Hudson
Allen...............Daniels............House...................J.R. Giddens
K.G................G. Davis .....................................Gabe Pruitt
Perkins...........Wallace........................................Bill Walker
Rondo.............Marbury
Trade:
Mikki Moore
Tony Allen
Scalabrine
Okay, to make future room, and bring in more talent, the Big Three need to take a Big Cut. That is, if they are really serious about winning #18.
Pierce $19,795,712 – 20% = $15,836,570
Ray Allen $19,766,860 – 25% = $14,825,145
K.G. $16,400,000 – 10% = $14,760,000
With 8% Decreases every year.
This frees up about $10.5M and still gives the Big Three respectable salaries. But, hey, if they really want it, then lead by example. It doesn't make much sense if they're recruiting the likes of Rasheed Wallace with a Full-Court-Press. But, telling them, “You gotta take dirt-pay.”
New Contracts
Glen “Big Baby” Davis = 3 Years.
Rondo = Ditto.
Leon Powe -- only gets paid if he plays.
Marbury = 1 Year.
P.S. -- Keep an eye on Yao Ming. At 7'6", even with foot problems.

Pretty sure it's not possible. Ray can do it next offseason, Pierce could turn down his extension and then sign for longer, but KG can't.

Re: Big Three Pay cuts, Trades, & New Contracts to the young
They can't just take pay cuts once they've signed a contract.
Ray will sign a cheaper contract this summer (6-8 mil/yr) and Pierce could opt out and sign a new, cheaper contract this summer but I don't expect him to because he's earned the 19 million by bringing a title to Boston.
We need to sign Rondo ASAP for a 5 year deal because he's only going to get better and Davis shouldn't get more than 3 years/12 million IMO.
Also, since when does Posey play for us?

If he's out for the year, like Yao, his contract is picked up by insurance but it still counts against the cap

Re: Big Three Pay cuts, Trades, & New Contracts to the young
Posey's up for a possible trade, and Ainge is thinking about it. Like when he brought back Antoine Walker. This would further pad our run for #18.
The Big Three can, and should, restructure their contracts. Give them all three year extensions. Ditto for Rondo and Big Baby, and maybe even House.
Both Yao & Powe can become bargain deals if they're picked up during their injuries. With Yao, Perkins can take a back seat.
Also, the kids ( Giddens, Pruitt, Walker & possibly Hudson) need to be brought along. Right now we've got to be the oldest team ever. The core is over 30. Some of these younger guys could be diamonds in the rough, like Davis was.
Moore, T. Allen & Scalabrine are all liabilities. Trade then if you can, dump them if you have to.
Marbury has a permanent attitude, but we need a decent backup PG. He'll probably be more comfortable playing a full season. It ain't going to work if he keeps up that hesitation. He's got to take the shot, and facilitate the assist; also keep the pressure on, on defense.

In the NBA contracts just can't be changed whenever you want. People would be changing their minds on what players are worth all the time if that was possible. There would be no busts in the NBA if we lived in a magical world where this could happen.

This isn't football, you can't renegotiate contracts. Plus players would have no security if they got injured.

Re: Big Three Pay cuts, Trades, & New Contracts to the young
Nobody is taking a pay decrease. Garnett already restructured his deal in his extension he can't and won't do it again. Pierce should and could do what Garnett did. Ray is going to get less on his new deal the question is how much less and if it will be in Boston.
There is no need for Posey and Daniels. They are different players but both need the mins at the SF to be worth their money. With Wallace Posey's biggest offensive attribute is replaced. The biggest issue now is with Powe gone, and possible losing TA, who is going to punch someone in the face when necessary. Sheed can do some of this but he isn't very discreet much like Perk. This is one of the biggest reasons I went Bill Walker kept on this team right now, to be an instigator.
I see little advantage in giving either Rondo or Baby short deals. What you want to do is overpay them now a little for the role they are in and then get them on the cheap down the road when they are playing a bigger role. Much like Kendrick Perkins deal, which I now wish was longer.
I really like the idea of bench of House, Daniels, Baby, and Sheed. That gives Boston 4 bench players who can play 2 positions and could step in and start and be effective, even if House would be a big ugly. We could use a 3rd pg but whether it is Lue or Marbury doesn't matter a ton as Rondo is less and less of question mark so you are talking about a 5-10 min role.

Parliament -- Take it easy, champ. Why don't you sit this next one out and stop talking for a while, ok?
you can't renegotiate contracts. it's not allowed, even if the player and team wants to.
our average age is 26.90, which is just a hair below the league average of 26.91. we are far from the oldest team. that distinction belongs to SA.
and no, Ainge isn't thinking about bringing back Posey. he didn't like his contract because it was too long and too much. now he's a year older and has a worse contract. where do you come up with this crap?
thanks for playing tho.

Hey kids, relax. I'm just trying to spark conversation. Didn't know that you couldn't restructure basketball contracts, like in football. But here's where I got the Posey idea.:

Dear Ainge: Fix The Mistake

It is time to put things right.
I was willing to go along with the program last year. I understood the concept of maintaining financial flexibility and not overpaying a player. I talked myself into agreeing with the decision to let James Posey sign elsewhere.
I was wrong and so was Danny.
Could Posey have put us over the top to win a title this year? Considering that we'd still be without KG, probably not. However, staring at our team needs, one of the glaring holes is a veteran, defensive minded small forward to come off the bench and give Pierce a rest. A bonus would be a guy that can also shoot and has championship experience. You know, like James Posey. As Bob Lobel might say, "why can't we get guys like that?"
Ainge has been willing to reverse course in the past. He brought back Antoine Walker. He dumped guys that were a bad fit, even though he was the one that brought them in (Ricky Davis). Danny is a shooter, and shooters have short memories. Time to do that again.
Posey was supposed to be the missing ingredient in New Orleans. He wasn't. Posey didn't play poorly, he just wasn't what they needed to put them over the top. At the deadline, New Orleans tried to trade Tyson Chandler for, ...essentially nothing. They need to shed salary in a big way. I'd like to help them out.
James Posey for Brian Scalabrine and Tony Allen
Tony was supposed to be our Posey replacement. He wasn't, but Ainge is good at selling us on Tony, he should be able to sell the Hornets on him. Scalabrine ended up being our poor-man's Posey. Between the two of them, they should be able to give the Hornets a reasonable alternative to Posey on the court and both have expiring contracts.
Will Posey be overpaid at the end of his deal? Yeah, probably. But I don't care anymore. We've got the Big 3 and we need to win now. We've proven that we can do it with Posey's help. Bring him back.
And if that fails, revisit the interest that Ainge showed in picking up Nocioni (once again, offering expiring deals)

What do you guys think about trading Moore, Tony Allen and/or Scalabrine? And about keeping Marbury & Glen "Big Baby" Davis?

Nice idea but I dont think the NBA is like the NFL, no one seems to be restructuring their deals for the greater good of the team.
If that could happen, things would even more interesting in the NBA off season

you realize we've signed Marquis Daniels, right?
We don't need Posey and his ridiculous, overpaid deal.

Exactly, but if NO package Posey and CP3 together, that is another story.

I'd be all for that deal Blue. But New Orleans would probably laugh us all up and down Bourbon Street.
