Will this further the thoughts of some players who think the Boston area is not a good play to come play as it has come to be thought of in the past.....especially black players........

my guess is athletes aren't going to relate too much to a 58-year old harvard prof, black or not.

they'll pay a lot more attention to what their friends around the L say.

My roommate freshman year threw her used tissues on the floor instead of in the trash. It was gross.

I'm sure there are a lot of athletes thinking - "I'm never going to Boston, if I bust down my front door because I'm so stupid I forgot my key, I'm going to have to show id to show I'm not trying to rob the place. Better to stay in (insert city name here) where they don't care about protecting the homes of the citizens". sic

Oh uh right speaking on the actual topic, Boston isn't exactly considered the most desirable city for NBA players on its own merits. The players who have come here in the past few years have come here because the team is good, there's a lot of history, and the fans treat the players well. I don't see this one incident really hurting the Celtics in a tangible way.

Yea, guys like Robert Swift and Birdman might be thinking twice now that it is national news that we have crazy black professors running around everywhere...

I doubt anyone will even talk about this in about 1-3 weeks, let alone keep players from wanting to play here.

I think President Obama will make this another thing to list on the reason blacks don't want to play in Boston.

President Obama saying that big Irish cop acted paraphrasing "stupid" harassing his educated black Harvard professor "friend" proving that this country still has a lot of issues with racism [ie: that says Boston is a prime example of a state that is very racist]...

If Obama actually didn't say anything until he knew even a single fact of WTF he was talking about this issue would of been forgotten a month from now.

But Obama's statements carry a lot of weight with my black friends. So I assume they would too with black NBA players [I think it was KG T-Mac and LeBron who wore sneakers to vote for him in the election]

I am a minority and I am concerned going to clubs or lounges in Boston downtown area.... I want to have fun but I do not want people looking at me strangely and girls being scared of me...... Face it boston is full of irish people and raicism is higher here than any of the big cities in U.S.A.

This is the percption of NBA black players about Boston.... even KG said he was concerned about coming to Boston he only agreed after Allen... Do any of u guys know y PP was stabbed in a club ? Is it gang related ?

I really don't think this harvard mess will stop players from coming. Basketball is about the team not the city itself if your a winner players will go. This is not a case of racial profiling. Go to aclu.org/racialjustice/racialprofiling/21741res20051123.html They give examples of racial profiling in different cities. People who think Boston is such a horrible place need to read that article and take a look at Cincinnati before they scream about Boston. The city of Boston has made a dramatic improvement in race relations and that must continue. The question is not whether this was racial profiling but whether Professor Gates should have been arrested that is the debateable issue. Police were called to the scene it wasn't as if Officer Crowley walked by the residence and thought well there is two black men going into this house I'll arrest them. According to the report Officer Crowley instructed Professor Gates multiple times to stop his tumultous behavior which he didn't following the officer outside and continuing the behavior. I hope they release the tapes of the call and radio transmissions this may help answer some questions.

No one is going to look at you strangely, well except for this guy:

But he's a yuppie ***hole. He's look at everyone in Boston like that.

As for girls, um, lol...

It definitely wasn't a white guy who stabbed him.

Well I'm not a cop, but I've been around to know you can't arrest someone in their house without a warrant.

The professor probuly was being a dick which would piss the officer off but he was in the house so the office couldn't arrest him without just cause, then the officer had to piss the professor off enough to get him to follow him outside. The office had to get in a real verbal fight to piss that guy off enough. Once out of the house then the cop arrested the guy free and clear.

I'm not going to suggest what you've experienced didn't happen, but I am a minority and I am in an interracial marriage, and I have never actually experienced the sort of 1960's-style racism you are talking about in Boston, whether by myself or with my husband. There is far more racism (especially structural racism) in Boston than most of the posters on this forum will admit, but I've never been inside a club where race was a big deal.

Incidentally, the most blatant examples of racism I've experienced were in New York and New Jersey, where I was actually called by ethnic slurs.
