God I hope Wade convinces Odom to go to Miami

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Sun Jul 26, 2009 7:52 pm

This would make me happier then a pig in sh#t. Because it would be one less team I'd have to worry about when it comes to the title. Without Odom the Lakers have no bench whatsoever. Just a bunch of softy crybabies.

There is no one left for them to sign that can effect a game like Odom. Orlando and Cleveland has really taken care of business this offseason.

Their bench honestly looks terrible if he leaves. I'm excited!

They'd still have 3 good backup PGs. :)

No good starting PGs -- but a bunch of good backups.

I still think there's no way he leaves; the only chance is if the Lakers think he's bluffing and he jumps at a Miami offer before LA realizes he's serious.

Ariza was pretty good but overhyped (and he'll be pointless for Houston) - by upgrading him into a great player like Artest, they go from a pretty weak championship team to a really strong one, practically unstoppable. I think we'd have a chance if Rasheed is REALLY rejuvenated, but that's no given.

But if Odom leaves, they'll have no bench, and it will pretty well offset their upgrade to Artest - they might not be any better than the team that needed 7 games to beat a crippled Houston team last year.

But the Lakers know this and won't let him go. I always say that the Lakers have hardly ever made a clever or savvy move, that everything they ever got was handed to them (Gasol, Kareem, Shaq, Wilt, Artest, Worthy, etc etc etc). But to their credit - they don't make the stupid moves either. The only bad moves were trading Butler for Kwame (which Wallace bailed them out of) and trading Shaq instead of Kobe (which wound up being a GOOD move after Wallace bailed them out.)

Add Kobe to the handed-to-them list.

Unfortunately, you're probably right about Odom. He's using the Heat for leverage -- unless he thinks he'd have more fun being a starter in Miami, to an extent that is worth giving up money for.

If his Miami buddies can arrange a REALLY exciting visit to Miami for him, that might sway him ... ;)

I think the Lakers right now are a bad matchup for the Celtics.

Same way that the Celts are bad for the Magic.

And the Magic are bad for the Cavs.

Ron Artest's presence completely changes a BOS-LA game now that they can stop Pierce.

But if Odom leaves and they add no one. The talent of the bench should be able to make up for it.

As it is right now, I don't really know how BOS will do against a new ORL,CLE,SA. But I'll take my chances.

And if Odom is gone, against a new LA I still don't know how the Celts will do. But I'll take my chances.

Hell I don't even know what the new Celtics will look like lol.

Artest can't stop Pierce..nobody can really..he can make it tougher, but if Pierce is on his A game than he will wash the floor with Artest's tongue...

You can't stop a great offensive player like Pierce, you can only hope to contain him. Pierce has owned Artest in the past and I don't see any reason for that to stop.

this would definitely hurt them if he were to leave. artest < ariza/odom.

pierce has consistently abused artest when they've played on the court. artest can only hope to contain him during games.

Pierce and Artest's best years are behind them, but everyone saw in both of their primes in the IND-BOS series.

Artest has contained Pierce one on one. And is the only player ever to have done so.

It is always good to wish for things that would hurt the Lakers, but in this case it may be better to be careful what you wish for. Miami with Boozer, Wade, Beasley and Odom could be a team the Celtics have to deal with before the Celtics ever have to deal with LA in a game that counts. LA may never even reach Boston with the improvements the Spurs made - with or without Odom. Also LA has about $8 million in expiring contracts that they would be able to use to get someone by the next trade deadline. With the threat of the new lower salary cap, teams, especially losing teams will be having a fire sale by next February. Whether they get Odom or not, the Lakers will likely end up with another good player. If Miami doesn't get Odom, I'm not sure they can upgrade as much especially if they get Boozer
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

The odds of Miami getting Boozer are too minimal to worry about that. Besides a Boozer/Odom/Beasley frontline is not that opposing defensively.. far from it.

Also if you sign Odom long term, you don't trade for Boozer with Beasley in the wings.

MIA has to keep some cap open for Wade 2010.

Well Boozer is an expiring as well, so if that experiment fails then it doesn't affect their 2010 cap. Then again they have to make sure they send nothing valuable away in a deal for Boozer, which may not be possible.

BBD is holding out for an offer the Cs will have to match. Nobody wants to give him that until they know they won't mind having the money tied up for a week and not usable for other FAs. So he's probably the one standing on the brakes.

Artest has openly said Pierce is the toughest guy to guard in the NBA... well before eh got all over Brandon Roy's nuts.
