"Will Bowen pick Celts or Cavs?"

Article off Hoopsworld.com basically stating that Bowen may have narrowed it down to Cleveland and Boston. It also touches on the theory that Boston hasnt pulled out all the stops for Daniels just yet because Bowen is now on the market and all options must be weighed.
I almost threw this in the other Bowen thread but I saw this as too important to get lost in the fog.
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?sto ... titialskipI prefer Daniels myself, if all else is equal.

I don't think it is a both concept not and either or. The view Daniels getting mins in the backcourt with House and Bowen in the Posey role of Big SF/Little PF to help match up with James, Lewis, Granger guys like that.
The mins are tight either way in Boston just lots of bodies, and in CLE he would be backing up the one guy they can't really afford to leave the court.

Hopefully we can get both. Daniels in a trade, we will use the LLE of Marbury and hopefully no one offers Bowen more than the min and he wants to come here.
What do the Cavs have left as far as exceptions?

why would he want to go to the cavs? do they need anymore 2 and 3 players?

I'm having a hard time seeing the minutes working out if we get both Daniels and Bowen, plus a backup PG. I just don't see Ainge getting both of them.

If they sign Bowen & Daniels, it may mean Daniels is the backup point.

Yeah, it's more an issue of back-up PG vs Bowen not Daniels vs. Bowen. They will try to get both. I think the Daniels signing might be held up if at all because Bowen might want the LLE. So they will trade for Daniels and then use the LLE on Bruce.
Assuming a BBD resigning, it looks like:
House
Daniels
Bowen
BBD
Sheed
as our bench. With Scal, Walker/Giddens, TA, providing spot minutes (depending on whom is still here). I'll take it, maybe one more big like Swift or wait on Leon..

I will not like it if we settle on Bowen. He's very close to being completely done. As is, I'd only want him out there for 10-15 minutes a night at most and not for 82 games. He'll be a great 4th wing if we get Daniels, who really is a requirement at this point from my perspective.

“According to published reports a return to the Spurs appears "unlikely" while the Celtics are said to be holding off on signing free agent Marquis Daniels of the Indiana Pacers until management can decide if adding Bowen to their roster is more feasible.”
Why would the Celtics even consider picking Bowen over Daniels? Granted Daniels is by no means a star but he is younger and is a better player than Bowen is. Bowen is 38 and DONE.

I would prefer Bowen and Daniels, especially since we can't backtrack on Daniels now without looking bad and Bowen's health isn't reliable anyways. And, Daniels is a decent fit alongside Eddie House. I just don't like relying on Daniels at both SF and SG. Maybe our scouts believe he'd be a solid defender @ SF and maybe they're right but I don't know.
Bowen probably can't stay healthy for the entire season next season, but he's hardly older than Grant Hill, can still defend well enough, and he can at least shoot the trey better than Daniels. He would give added depth, and a large part of the attraction to me is this is a guy with experience playing on a number of great Spurs teams. He'd make a great guy to have around the locker room, I would assume.

I will be infuriated with this team if they willingly choose Bowen over Daniels. You don't take Bowen over someone who's a decade younger, better now in every facet of the game, and willing to sign for just a couple million for multiple years. Bowen's a great role player to have, but Daniels can be a difference maker and is exactly what our bench needs. I'd still like to have both of course. This better not be held up because the team doesn't want to give up Giddens or Walker for Daniels when they could get Bowen for no one.

As worded, that suggests the Cs are saying in the Daniels negotiations "Well, if this doesn't work out, Bowen is our fallback position."
I just see it as a negotiating ploy -- and a minor one at that, considering the source it was leaked to.

Bruce Bowen is a horrific basketball player. One of the most overrated players of all time. He used to be able to play good, GOOD, one on one D. Now he is 38 and can't move at all anymore. He would be a bad signing.

Adding both Bowen and Daniels just means better preimeter D and less MIN for Pierce and Ray Ray during the season, which isn't a bad thing.

Ainge is already talking about Marquis Daniels that deal is done and the S&T isn't likely to happen. He will get the LLE and he will play in the backcourt with Eddie off the bench.
Bowen would be a vet min guy, he is who he is an effective wing defender who doesn't rebound and can do nothing but spot up and shoot 3's offensively. He is a SG/SF version of Scal at this point and it isn't likely Scal's services will be needed at the PF spot so if what we need is a veteran SF I would rather have Bowen, playing those mins.
The bench is filling out like this
Sheed F/C
Daniels G
House G
Davis F/C ?
Then you have
TA G
Scal F
Walker G/F
Giddens G
That leaves two roster spots and it looks like one went to Shelden Williams F/C so that leaves one more for Hudson, Marbury, Lue, or a guy like Bowen. Hudson is the 58th pick or whatever not sure if he is going to even get a good look, I think Sheed kind of fills in that crazy void for us so the vaseline eater can beat it. I think the key to Bowen joining the team would be if they believe Giddens can play the point off of the bench they seemed to be toying with this in summer league. I like Daniels as a pg but I don't like the chances of him staying healthy.

Any chance we go for him and forget about Daniels? I would absolutely freak out if we did that..

CLE will not sign Bowen. I would be amazed if we did. The two FA's we added (Parker/Moon) both play his position. Also we are keeping Jawad Williams who also is a 2/3, not to mention our draft pick Danny Green.

I would be pissed if the C's choose Bowen over Daniels. MD just brings a lot more to the table than Bowen IMO. It would be stupid for Ainge to think twice about signing Daniels just because Bowen is now available.

Surely we would get Daniels anyway, and thats what i expect
I still dont mind the idea of adding Bowen for depth though

I've been browsing through the celticsblog forums and I would have to agree with one of the posters that
if this rumor is true, it may have nothing to do with Daniels. Instead, Bowen's decision to sign here may determine what Danny offers in a potential trade to land Daniels. With Pierce and Allen getting big minutes and Daniels and Bowen on board, he'd have the ability to trade 2 of the 3 young wings (Allen, Giddens, and Walker). Without Bowen on board, he may be balking a bit at trading more than one.
