I want the Spurs this year and the Lafers next.
SA and LA have won more recent titles than anyone------I want them both and to beat both obviously.
We match up very well with either, but the window for SA is closing

So one team is the defending champs while the other (Spurs) are preseason paper champs.
I dont think your going to have a hard time with your answer.

I hate Ginobili and Duncan! I would want to play the Spurs..and **** them up...let Pierce abuse Manu's punk ass, and KG abuse Duncan...plus..Lakers x Celtics is pretty much a guaranteed ring for the Celtics..since we beat them 80% of the time... hah..

Lakers will be the better team throughout the season IMO, but they are too dependent on Derek Fisher as a role playing PG and the Spurs have better role players.

The Lakers should not have traded Patrick Beverley to the Heat for cash considerations, IMO.

On one hand, ultimately the Lakers have surrounded Kobe with Artest/Odom/Gasol/Bynum and the PG only means so much in the triangle offense. Meanwhile I have always viewed Richard Jefferson as overrated.

But, Jefferson is at peak age, and is a good fit (I assume Mason starts and Finley is the back-up SF).

I think its a toss up as to the toughest matchup.

Most definitely the Lakers. With all sue respect to San Antonio it's just much sweeter to beat the Lakers than the Spurs.

We already showed the Lakeshow up in 2008. I'd love to finally get our 1997 draft revenge by beating Timmy in 2010.

FIXED.

Yeah, I'll take 2 times out of the last 2 meetings, and 2 out of the last 3yrs. Beating SA would be great and all, but nothin sweeter than beating the 2nd place chips collectors (for the umpteenth time?!?) and to further distance ourselves away for the next few decades (when will some team eventually catch up? is there gonna be one? after all these yrs LOL) .... but let's not get too carried away, we still have Orl & Clev to put away first, folks .... 8-)

Lakers because they all feel they would have beaten us with his lordship Andrew Bynum, the next season they win the title and I would love to see them make it again [x3] only to lose to the C's again.

However they're extremely talented and we have a much better chance against the Spurs. So .... 50/50.

Spurs aren't making the Finals.

Duncan is gonna be 34 by the time the playoffs start, Manu will be pushing 33, Dice will be 35 and Finley 37.

Plus, their bench is still crap.

KG will be 34, Ray will be pushing 35, Paul will be 32. Neither team has exactly relied on their bench to win championships this past decade (not counting Manu off the bench, obviously, since you didn't). Don't discredit a team because of what you expect from their age. Minus the injuries, like our team, they showed a decent amount of promise last year and really added this offseason.

You also ignored the fact that the thread asks who you want, not who you expect.

Lakers. They're the defending champs. Nothing would be better than taking the championship from the current titleholders. I'm sure the Lakers would've wanted that privilege when they won the championship last June.

Spurs, their team plays to our strengths.

Big lowpost defenders on Timmy.

They rely on Parker for their scoring and Rondo specialty is suppose to be matching up against penetrating guards [puts some pressure on them offensively with his drives and get an occasional steal].

And I can't think of a better player to guard McDyess then Garnett.

Also Pierce and RJ will do their things. Both able to play their games, and given those two I'd prefer that.

Manu is sneaky though. But at the same time I beleive he'll have trouble with a pick player like Ray Allen offensively... so that sorta cancels out.

Lakers however.. I just don't think we matchup as well.

I didn't say we were winning it either, Zin.

Who do I *want*?

I will take the Spurs. They are a much weaker team than LA.

But whatever, matchup problems with Parker aside, they are no threat to LA.

I want the Lakers. It's just way more satisfying beating them.

The inner Celtic fan in me wants a matchup with the Lakers just so we can crush their hopes of a three peat/ four peat/whatever and to demoralize their fan base by beating them twice in a three year span and basically throwing away any hopes they have of passing us in terms of total titles (there's an entire thread on this on the Lakers board) by delivering the blow that officially makes the post Shaq/Kobe era a letdown.

The practical fan though knows that
1) the Lakers are a harder matchup for us- this is pretty much undeniable- Gasol plays Garnett well, Kobe does his help defense routine where he guards Rondo and sags off/roams-unless Rondo has improved his jumper by next playoffs- this will continue to hurt us, and Artest is as good of a find as you can get to guard Pierce. Add in any possible improvement that Bynum may make from now until next year and the resigning of Odom- and I'm wary of the Lakers next year- far more than I was when they acquired Gasol or even last year.

2) The Spurs will not beat the Lakers- the Lakers have owned them the entire decade, Kobe always plays well against the Spurs, and an aging Spurs team is basically a lesser form of the Celtics- not enough to beat the Lakers next year.

So yeah- want the Spurs- but know we won't get them if the Lakers are healthy.
