Kirk Hinrich

Post#1 » by theman » Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:27 pm

He is too good of a fit not to have is own thread. It is obvious Chicago is looking to the future. They let one of (if not) their best player leave and got nothing in return.

At a minimum this is what it would take to make a deal work:
Tony Allen
Brian Scalabrine
Eddie House

or some deal involving Glen Davis (other players, probably house would have to be included)

I imagine either some cash to buy out Tony Allen or one of Giddens/Walker might have to be included to get the deal done.

I know Eddie House is a lot a people's binky but Hinrich is better. He can actually run the point very well. He can also play shooting guard. Keep in mind that Ray Allen is a free agent next summer. Hinrich could be his replacement. He could also be Rondo's replacement if that gets ugly next summer.

More importantly is what he does for the team now. Which is fills in the missing pieces. Yes, Hinrich is expensive at 9 million per season but he perfectly fills out the Celtics top eight. And it is the top eight that wins you a championship not the 10th, 11th and 12th.

With this deal there is the starting five of Pierce, Garnett, Ray Allen, Perkins and Rondo. Rasheed Wallace backing up Perkins and Garnett, Daniels backing up Pierce and Allen and Hinrich backing up Allen and Rondo.

Get it done Danny, Get it done!

The Blazers tried to make a pitch for Hinrich and were rejected, so I highly doubt a package of the Cs role players would be enough to pry him out of the Windy City. Hinrich's too valuable to the Bulls, especially with the departure of Ben Gordon. They'd need a starting 2 guard back in order for Paxson to even consider the offer.

This basically sums it up.

Can Celtic fans please stop thinking that every team just wants to unload every one of their half decent players to us for our expirings? Hinrich would be a great fit but we don't even have close to the assets to get him.

Yeah....well trading expirings worked for the Lakers when they got Gasol, and It worked for Cavs to get Shaq...even the Spurs traded a bunch of crap to get Jefferson....

As its unlikely, its not impossible.

Phoenix has one of the cheapest owners in the league and admitted the Shaq experiment didn't work. Memphis is one of the most mismanaged teams in the league.

Chicago is trying to win and they won't give up a player like Hinrich just for expirings. The price might not be much to get out from under his contract, but I highly doubt we'd be willing to part with whatever they may be looking for and it's certainly more than expirings. I could maybe see Glen Davis being the centerpiece around the deal, depending on what Chicago's opinion of him is.

At the trading deadline, maybe...but his contract is too big for us, IMO...

Which is why they let their best player go for nothing. Like I mentioned originally the expirings would be the MINIMUM it would cost us. I would expect more. We could take out Tony Allen and add Giddens and Walker. With Davis signed I guess the sign and trade is out.

The Blazers where getting in on the Boozer deal. There was also a rumor of the three way which would have sent Hinrich to the 76ers, Andre Miller to Portland and Steve Blake to Chicago. Does that trade make Chicago better? In the end Portland signed Miller out right. They no longer have interest in Hinrich.

What hinders the Celtics pursuit is the buy out of Tim Thomas. It has put Chicago 1 million under the Salary cap.

 We are not getting Kirk Hinrich. Dude, you'd have a tough time convincing the CPU to do that trade in NBA 2k9 or NBA Live, never mind John Paxson. Post your idea in the Bulls forum and Trade forum and see what other fans think. I can guarantee you that 99% of non-Celtic fans will think it would be an absolute ripoff for the Bulls. It's not going to happen. What part of "losing Ben Gordon makes Kirk Hinrich even more vital" did you not understand?

for some reason no one wants to give us anything good fro very little though...

even though it looked bad at the time, the twolves got way more back from us than any of those teams mentioned and some other trades that have happened recently

Best player is a questionable term to put on Gordon. He was an undersized volume scorer looking for about $10M per year. I don't think they wanted to waste their capspace, which can be used to sign someone actually better in 2010, on a marginally decent scorer. Rose is their best player. If they let him go for nothing, then offer Scal, TA, and try to get a first rounder back in return.

EDIT: And as pointed out, the loss of Gordon raises Hinrich's importance to them. They didn't have a choice in whether or not they got anything out of Gordon either way. He was unrestricted and that's how free agency works. Deal with it.

OT but thinking of ben gordon, i dont see how people feel detroit really improved this offseason. wouldnt they have been better if they had found a way to keep chauncey and the boys together than this weird new combo of gordon, villanueva, prince, hamilton, maxiell, and stuckey as the core? detroit fans will argue they are repositioning for the future but im not impressed at all by the marginal former uconn players who think they are all star level talents

The mods really need to make a sticky for all of these half baked trade ideas that will never happen.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

Any time you can pay your backup pg 9.5 million dollars a year, you pretty much have to...

I'm giving Dumars next season and offseason before I say the moves were a mistake. They've got a lot of talent and I'd say they're better than they were at the end of last season, but they gave up on being the team that got them six straight ECF appearances. Unless they sort their positional conflicts out, they're looking like they'll be first round exits for the next six years.

What is with people and Kirk Hinrich???

His skills would fit in nicely off the bench not just for us, but for most teams. The problem is he's vastly overpaid and Chicago is gonna want more then just expirings in exchange for the opportunity to overpay Mr. Hinrich.

The guy I would have my eye on as a possible target is Shane Battier. We have the expiring contracts to match his deal and if Houston is out of it by the time the all star break comes around they may be inclined to ship him off to get as far under the cap as possible for the upcoming FA class. When you consider that they just committed 5 years to a younger guy who plays Battier's position it seems even more plausible that they'd be seeking to move Battier once reality sets in with their chances this season.

If the Celtics had Battier in addition to Garnett, Perkins, Rondo, and Wallace they could get three or four shutouts a year.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I kinda think Hinrich sucks. That being said Chicago isn't trading him for our garbage.

Count me on.

I would much much rather have Battier.
