Leon Powe will sign a two-year contract for the league minimum with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday on the condition of doctors being satisfied with the progress of his injured left knee, a league source said.
Powe tore his anterior cruciate ligament and cartilage in his knee during Game 2 of the Boston Celtics’ first-round series against the Chicago Bulls.
Powe hopes to be back on the court by this season’s All-Star break, and the Cavaliers are willing to take a low-risk gamble on him pending the results of his physical.
The Cavaliers will hold the option for the contract’s second season.

It is too bad that Leon got injured because I would have loved to see him in Celtics Green for another year. However, i completely agree with Danny letting him go. When it comes down to it, the NBA is still a business and you got to let some guys go. I wish him the best of luck, although I wish he wouldnt have signed with the Cavs. That is going to make it hard for me to root for him

The Celtics needed to go into the season with as much healthy depth in the front court as possible this year. This team was derailed last year due to a disintegrating front court, which caused KG to breakdown and then Powe in the playoffs. I don't blame Danny at all for wanting to bring in a healthy Landlord over Powe. We need to limit minutes for key players like KG this year and Landlord will assist in that from day one while Powe would not. We can't afford the risk this year..

Sure wish Leon had decided to go play in Cali instead (anywhere but LAL).

It pains me to read this.
I have no idea why we couldn`t give him the same contract...I would rather have an injured Leon at minimum than TA, Hudson, Giddens...

Now that we resigned BBD and signed Wallace, to me it would have made more sense to resign Powe instead of signing Williams. Leon was our best post player. I wish Leon the best, but hoped he would go to a an contending team. Going to the Cavs sucks.

Really, really happy ending for Leon!!!
I'm glad he found his place even I'd have loved seeing him in green once again.
Too bad he joins Delonte's Cavs but hey, at least he is not in L.A....

Like everyone else I'm happy he's found a home to get paid......I wonder if he will be the same Powe with another knee problem. I hope so...

Ugh. Why did it have to be the Cavs? Out of all the teams... Leon is my of my favorite Celtics of the last few years. This saddens me. I'm happy he's happy but I don't want to see him in Cavs uniform playing against us in the playoffs. I wish there was a way we could have kept him as our 15th guy - it would have been a cheap gamble. When healthy he would have cracked the rotation for sure. Maybe Danny knows something we don't but I'm still sad.
This pic is from the 07 Vegas summer league. Leon stopped and waited for me to get my camera out and take a picture while walking outside the arena. Nice guy.

Too bad, I always liked Leon, but he's the enemy now, ESPECIALLY since he's on the Crabs!

This sucks. I like Leon but I hate the Cavs. I wish we had kept Powe and just banked on his recovery...

love leon. wish him the best.
the reason we got the big busto over leon as he'll get about the same mins (none baring injury) and can play all season.. leon might not play at all this year, or ever again.

We turned our backs on him, Celtics are supposed to play for the team not the name on their backs and thats what Leon did even through an injury.

I hope Leon the best in his recovery and all-- he's been one of my favorite players the last couple of years. This is a good pickup for the Cavs; a bit if a gamble on his health but worth the risk since Leon is just the type of bench guy they need.
Bottom line: this is cracking up to be a potentially amazing, no-holds-barred year of pro ball with the best of the best all a little improved. There's a sea change a-coming in the NBA-- many of the great players are in their final years and the next batch is truly coming into their own. So I expect there to be even more close battles amongst the top teams than last year. Little moves like Powe or Sheldon Williams could play out to be very significant in the long term chess match.
Had Leon been healthy I'm sure Ainge would have pursued him. Yet, it was a risk and I think we're going to find that Williams will come into that role and do very well. He doesn't have the offense and the ability to get to the line that Powe had, but his center of gravity and defense/shot-blocking are going to be better. In other words, I think we're fine but I'll miss Leon and it will be hard to root against him.

Yah, and he was a key role player on a championship team here! He even put his career at risk while playing injured at times. Sure, I'll root against the Cavs, but that image of Leon barreling down the lane for a lead pipe-armed dunk in the finals is marked indelibly in my mind.
Thrive, Leon, thrive! (Just not against your old team.)

Is it too much to hope Leon averages 20/10 while the Cavs go 0 for 82?
