Why so quiet about KG?

Post#1 » by KDRE » Tue Aug 11, 2009 6:20 pm

Whats going on with him lately

Is this rehab turning out okay? I havent heard any news on him
Notes: Rookie Rudy Gay twisted his left ankle trying to guard McGrady late in the third quarter and limped to the bench. He returned with 5:51 left, then returned to the bench about a minute later - http://www.nba.com/games/20061231/MEMHOU/recap.html

He's on the crapper right now.......and he's gonna follow that up with a long nap. lol

Honestly it really doesn't matter does it? unless it's the start of the season, which it's not. You must be bored at work or at home. I am bored too.....i wish it was October already....football and basketball

There are small mentions around, everything seems to be fine. This was in the Globe article on the Davis signing from this a.m.:

"Ainge said Garnett “is doing great’’ in his recovery from knee surgery. Celtics trainers have monitored Garnett’s progress in Malibu, Calif."

It seems he is recovering fine, but then again we were told so before Playoffs, so until training camp we wont know for sure. Honestly I would be fine if KG skips half of next season if it means he comes back 100% healthy.
Who would win one-on-one in HORSE?

Bird: Nobody beats me in H-O-R-S-E. Besides, Magic cant shoot.

Magic: Larry, you'd have no chance against me one-on-one. I've got too many ways to beat you. Plus, as slow as I am, I'm still faster than you.

There's a nagging worry in the back of my mind about KG. Players in their 30's don't often recover perfectly from injuries. We're hearing the occasional "he's doing great" but not much else. I wouldn't be at all shocked if his knee comes back to haunt him/us during the season. It's the difference between a ring and a 2nd round exit and something that fans should be mindful of and not completely dismiss. Kevin's not 21 anymore.

Exactly. Whatever it takes. Even if he plays limited or doesn't play early the C's would obviously make the playoffs. I'd much have him back right away at 100% but you have to look at the big picture.

KG has a lot of mileage on him. He is 33 years old but as he came straight from high-school he is really 35 or 36 year old in NBA years. I'm still very scared about this injury.

The good news is that even without KG the frontcourt is pretty good after we signed Rasheed and Shelden and resigned Big baby.

The almost complete silence is worrying me too. We heard almost nothing as the last season/injury went on, and we are hearing nothing now.

I know it is the off-season, but isn't that kinda the point? It IS the off-season, with nothing to really talk about and not one paper or website has managed to get a decent story out going through the injury, the re-hab and where KG is at the moment.

KG's a pretty secluded dude during the off-season though unless hes on a trip or soemthing

he'd just be working with trainers, no reason to him to keep updating reporters with his status

No news is good news I guess. If there were complications we would have heard about it; smoke would be seen.

Yes, and as mentioned by others, with a frontcourt of Perkins, Wallace, Davis, Williams, and Scalabrine, we can probably afford to sit Garnett 2-3 months.

Although, it makes you wonder if the signing of players like Davis and Williams was as preventative insurance (in case a Garnett or Wallace goes down for a month or two during the season), or was it to address the reality that they already know that Garnett is going to miss a decent sized chunk of next season? As much as I advocated the re-signing of Davis this summer, I would admit that, if we were pretty confident in the abilities of Garnett, Wallace, and Perkins to each play 30+ mpg for 80+ games next year, Shelden Williams and Brian Scalabrine would probably be enough insurance and that Davis would be unnecessary.

Unfortunately, I think the days of Garnett being able to handle 30+ mpg for 82 games are over. I see Garnett more as a 24-28 mpg player these days and that, if you're the general manager of the Celtics, you should expect Garnett to miss 15-20 games a season from here on out (and plan accordingly). Which I suspect Ainge did.

For those who are concerned about the silence regarding KG's knee, I can be concerned with you, especially given the horrid way they handled his injury last season...botched on every level... :-?
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

What do you mean "quiet?" Ainge and KG himself, at Sheeds press conference, has said he was doing great. What do you want from them? Turn it into a reality show? "KG's Recovery" What about daily updates on Sports Tonight? Maybe they can insert a mini video camera in KG's knee so we can watch the heeling as it progresses? It is summer, get out and enjoy. I am sure that is what KG is doing.
