Celts need another shooter

Post#1 » by Red2 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:06 pm

Danny has done a nice job upgrading the bench especially with Rasheed who can stretch the D with his 3 point shooting but I still would like to see a back up shooting guard who can actually shoot. Eddie is a shooting guard in a point guard's body, tony allen can;t shoot and Daniels is a slasher not a shooter. that leaves Giddens who may or may not be the answer. It appears at this time that backup pg is the last spot danny will try to fill. I loved cleveland's acquisition of Parker and orlando's pickup of Barnes. those are the kind of guys I was hoping Danny would go after. reddick or kapono also fit the mold as doe Korver. the lakers to me with the addition of artest are the team to beat. Kobe no longer has to guard the other's team best player. If we face them they will put artest on pierce and and kobe on ray. that's not good for us as those are our 2 leading scorers. I think we will have an advantage in the front court but it won't be huge. Is pavolic still out there or did he sign with someone?

AI is not a good shooter at all.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

why do they need another shooter? Ray, pierce, house, and sheed are all great shooters, and scal can knock down an occasional three. Also BBD and KG are both big men who stretch the floor because of their mid range ability.

Agree with OP. Celts need to cover depth if Rondo goes down or if their is an injury to any of the 3 perimeter shooters (Ray, Pierce, House), which is why I'd think Lue is the vet choice or you could roll the dice with Hudson.

you can never have enough shooters. I agree a back up pg is also a priority. I think Danny believes Hudson can solve both problems- ie be the back up pg and also hit the outside shot. what little I saw of the guy he really impressed me with his ability to score

One more reason, improbable as it seems, Hudson may have a chance on this team.

In Summer League, Chris Lofton was absolutely deadly from 3. I wonder if he gets a camp invite.

I don't think it's a need. It would be nice, but not necessary.

We have two of the best 3 pt shooters in the league (imo) in House and Allen.
Pierce can shoot consistently well from anywhere on the court.
KG, Wallace, and Big Baby can all stretch the floor with a mid range shot. Rasheed can stretch the floor with a 3 ball.

I think we're fine as far as shooting goes.... our 4 best players all can shoot from almost anywhere.

The C's need another PG and SF. Both of whom need to be able to shoot the 3 at a good rate. Then this team is set.

Yeah...I like the sound of that.

Where is he and what would he cost?

At what point do we cease to need upgrades? I think it's a matter of want at this point. I don't think it's necessary or particularly realistic to be stacked at every position.

If TA and Walker are moved in a Daniels trade I think we should pick up Lue and Bowen for the vet minimum. Both those guys are still excellent 3pt shooters. I think it's very unlikely that Ainges plans on any kind of contribution from Hudson next year. That would give you how many very good 3pt shooters off the bench: Scal, House, Sheed, Lue, Bowen.

Bowen's done. Toast.

Lue's not even close to being as good as Eddie House.

Lue's done. Except for desperate, non-playoff teams.

Choices for final PG will probably be between Lester Hudson, Allen friggin Iverson (Celtics would gladly take him at the vet minimum), maybe even 33 year old Jason Williams, who reportedly is looking for the biggest paycheck available, which means the team that will play him the most minutes (except Memphis has said they only offered Williams the vet minimum), and buyouts at the trade deadline.

It would be something if the Celtics swung a trade for a PG with some combination of Scal, Williams, Walker, Giddens, Hudson and/or Tony Allen before the trade deadline.

^^^Agreed. Bowen and Lue are not worth it for any NBA team.
