I love Butler... on my fantasy team last year. Guy can flat out shoot and score from the bench.

Phenomonal for LAC awful for NO

2 reasons:

1. the clippers will finish with a worst record then the Celtics and have a better 2nd round pick.

2. we don't have salary cap.

The Clippers are really improving. They are going to be a fun team. Another very good pick up by the Clippers.

Yeah we could have offered expirings instead of the exeption, and our pick....

but space and a higher pick is obviously the better deal, as awful as it is

good pick up for the clips IMO

I'm sure New Orleans can find another backup calibre swingman with a PER of 11 that can be overmatched at the starting shooting guard position.

The reason the Clippers were an ideal partner for New Orleans is because trading Butler to Los Angeles didn't require the Hornets to take back a player or additional salary.

I like the deal for both teams. It makes sense for New Orleans, and the Clippers might surprise people and win more games than this season if Griffin's the real deal and B. Davis remains healthy.

The Clippers were able to absorb Butler's contract without surrendering a player by plugging his salary into the $7.3 million trade exception they created when it dealt Zach Randolph to Memphis last month.

If the Hornets can shed some $4 million more in payroll between now and February in a similar deal that does not force them to take a contract in return, they are poised to move beneath the $69.9 million tax threshhold for next season.

The swap gives the Hornets some financial flexibility - Butler was scheduled to earn $3.945 million this season - as well as potentially opens up minutes at the position for Julian Wright, Morris Peterson and rookie Marcus Thornton.

Wright was impressive for the Hornets' summer league team in Las Vegas last month, as was Thornton, whom the Hornets traded a future second-round pick to the Miami Heat on draft night to acquire.

They have at least three means of doing so already on their roster.
