How about Desmond Mason?

The Thunder are not going to re-sign him. Does it make sense or is it possible that we could sign him? He would be a good veteran pick up, and his defense would certainly be an asset. Thoughts?

If it didn't work out basketball-wise, he and Tommy could set up an art studio and do painting together.

I liked him some time ago, but no matter how much he has left, we need somebody who can stretch the floor.

were getting Marquis Daniels. We're pretty much spending the rest of our money on him. Whats good about Daniels is that he's young and he's proven he can be a solid player. he proved it as a rookie with the Mavericks and last year with the Pacers. Plus he can play some point, so signing Daniels essential solves our PG problems (assuming that after crying, smoking pot and basically acting like a dumbass on live webcam that Stephon Marbury has pretty much given up on basketball).

As for Mason? He's good. He's not as much of a high flyer as he once was. He's got a bit more age than Daniels. but he is somewhat injury prone and has had attitude problems in the past. I'd take Daniels over Mason. Not by a landslide, but i just would.

Not sure why we need Dez Mason. We've got Daniels, Walker, and Giddens behind Pierce and Ray. It's pretty much our deepest position. Plus Mason can't shoot from outside of 5 feet.

For our last roster spot we really need a backup PG who can handle the ball, run the team, and hit an occasional jumper. trouble is the guys available right now suck. so i say we wait patiently until someone decent comes available, either via trade or someone who gets cut or something. there's no hurry.

Walker and Giddens don't count as far as I'm concerned. Neither one has played a meaningful second in an NBA game. To go from that to valuable rotation guy? We're going to need a 4th wing.

And I think we're done with PG's.

Occasionally guys have been known to improve between their rookie and soph years. plus we've still got tony allen, who is better than Mason anyways (though often injured, but then again so is Mason).

just don't see what Mason brings to this team. if we get another wing (which i don't think we will) we should get a shooter.

and i'm not exactly happy about our prospects if rondo goes down for some length of time. house is fine as a backup paired with Daniels or TA but as a starting PG it's not good.

Sure, but not when they don't play a lick their first year. It sucks for Walker and Giddens that they play on a team like this. These guys can't sniff the floor. They need to go to the TWolves or something where they can get minutes.

I don't think Mason is the answer either, but if we dump TA to get Daniels (and it's obvious we are still holding out hope for that), then I would look at Udoka or Pavlovic..

Regarding PG's. I think we'll pick up a guy in-season if necessary..

You say Mason is better? TA had a better season last year then Mason. And Mason is coming fresh off an ACL tear. What would make you say that Mason is better then TA right now?

Mason is close enough talent-wise and injury-wise to TA that it's not worth the potential upgrade in having Mason over Allen as 4th wing. If we can find a way to move TA, then I'd love to bring in Mason, Pavlovic, or Bowen for depth purposes.

if we get someone who can't stretch the floor and doesn't give us length, i'd rather play bill walker.

If we manage to trade TA I'd prefer Pavlovic or Udoka over Mason.

Otherwise just play Walker and Giddens. These guys have talent, give them a chance.

Have people really given up that much hope on TA? He can't be our insurance policy SG? The way I see it is: Rondo plays about 36 minutes, House plays 12. Pierce plays about 32, Daniels plays 16. Ray plays 32 as well, House and Daniels split SG backup minutes. TA would be our insurance guy, along with JR and Bill Walker. We are all set there guys.

Rondo / House
Ray / TA / JR
Pierce / Daniels / Walker
KG / Baby / Shelden / Scal
Perk / Sheed

That's 14. Just find someone at the trade deadline to be our insurance policy PG, a la Sam and Steph the last couple years.

Dez Mason is Marquis Daniels, with worse defense (statistically), less passing ability, more age, and less health. He might be more of an SF than Marquis Daniels, but still.
