Ray Allen (WIRETAP ARTICLE)

Post#1 » by Dirty Water » Sun Aug 23, 2009 6:19 pm

What do you guys think. I would personally love to see Ray back, and part of me wants him to retire a Celtic. However, our business should come before his family. If it was best for the team, then I am all for letting him walk, regardless of his family situation (the thing about his daughter going to school in the area.)

As of right now I think this provides leverage to the C's. Apparently Ray's family already wants to stay in Boston, so the C's don't need to negotiate against other cities. We know that Ray's best days are behind him, he's not going to get insane money anywhere. If he signs for well below market value, obviously we keep him. Otherwise, always keep every option open.

This article doesn't say anything about him being "expected" to remain with the Celtics. Poor wiretap heading. Peter May is purely speculating.

Unless we can get a great deal for him this season, a great sign and trade in the off season, or he wants a near max deal I think we keep him. People around here (genderal board) like to pretend that he is not a great player. He brings a lot to the table.

It wouldn't surprise me that this is Ray's last stop......so a discount would be in order and a place in the org. after too. Ray is a class person.

I'd love for Ray to stay. Even as he ages he'll still have the killer outside shot (like Reggie Miller was at the end of career) and he's one of the best guys in the NBA off the court.

definitely want him to retire as a celtic. hes proved hes still got it by posting incredibly high shooting numbers this past season. he brings a lot to the team and is one of the classiest players on and off the court.

Class act, I hope he is around for at least one more championship. And it would be so great if stays with the organization after his playing days are done.

The only way i want Ray gone is if by chance, some star wants out and we can facilitate a deal to make the team better by packaging rays deal with some young guys..

otherwise, re-sign him on the cheap and keep him around, if anyone can become a great role player late into their 30's its the best shooter in the league

I want him to retire as a Celtic and I believe he'll take a major pay cut to stay here, which could provide more value than what we could get back in a trade for him. Between him in Pierce taking paycuts, I believe we could make a major splash in the 2011 (and/or 2012 depending on KG's contract) free agency and have most of the same pieces still here, just quite a bit older.

I say trade him for the best young talent you can get. You know come april he will go into a funk. God he drives me nuts. how can he be so good, then so bad from game to game?

I have a feeling we're going to use Rondo as S&T bait next offseason for all those big name expiring deals (Dwayne Wade). if we sign ray for small money and don't need to pay Rondo, we might be able to pull off giving someone a max deal (while also sending out a guy or two of course).

this. as long as he's got his form on his jumpshot he'll be a good NBA player, even if he'll be playing reduced minutes

hopefully in a couple years giddens/new young sg will have emerged to allow ray to back them up..

Seriously.

Did anyone else jump up thinking they were close on an extension?

I don't think Ray Allen is going anywhere. I think Boston explored what Ray and perhaps Ray and Rondo's value in a deal would be it wasn't anything that would make them go in that direction.

The additions of a 34 year old Rasheed Wallace and a swingman that essentially does everything Ray doesn't and will not be able to do going forward but can't really do what Ray does certainly hints to future with Ray Allen.

Nothing is set in stone but Ray wants to be here and there isn't a ton of options for Boston to upgrade from him. But if this team is on its way to 60 wins and Ray's play is in line with what we have gotten the last two years he isn't going anywhere.

I don't care how old he is he is the best pure shooter in the game.

I agree.

I expect both Ray & Rondo to sign extensions this off-season before the first regular season game. Ainge has said all along that he won't even discuss extensions until October. I expect Ray & Rondo to be around for many more years.

I see no reason to trade the guy. There are only 4 or 5 people in the league who would be an upgrade over Ray at SG, and none of them have his clutch 3 point shooting ability. In terms of utility, Ray is unbelievable. In the Bulls series, being down by 3 in the closing seconds didn't matter, because we always had Ray to take the shot. I believe he might actually be a better shooter when the game on the line. When you put Ray on the floor with Paul at the same time, the Celtics have 2 closers on the floor, something that no other team in the league has.
