Confused me a bit, but it sounds like we're trying to get J.R. Giddens, Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine, or all 3 in some package with the C's and Rockets. He says Boston would keep Wilkins but buy out Atkins
I'm a Giddens fan so I hope they turn two bums into Giddens and see if he can turn into a decent bench player - maybe something more if he puts it all together. Who cares about the Atkins savings this year, take a chance on an athletic wing.

I got this off the Timberwolves board...yes, I still miss Gomes and Jefferson. Its Hume...so take it with a grain of salt.

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
Wow at first when I read your post and you mentioned Big Al and Gomes I got really excited. Classic misunderstanding.
This trade just is. Nothing too great or negative. Wilkins is the better player out of he, JR and TA at this stage. I don't know why we'd buy out Atkins though. He could be that insurance policy PG some of us on here are talking about, much like Lue could be.

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
Scal+TA+Giddens (6,9 mio) for Atkins+Wilkins (7,1 mio)...
Atkins contract is only 760k guaranteed that is why we would waive him. That would save us 2,6 mio (5,2 since we are over the luxury tax)...
I wouldn`t mind this trade. It gives us more flexibility, we get a back up SF and we can always trade Wilkins again if it doesn`t work out...
Wilkins and Atkins can not be traded before September 27th however...

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
This makes a lot of sense for us. We save money with Atkins immediately. Which I know is important to the Cs. Wilkins is also an expiring contract. But He fills a greater need as backup SF. Competing with Bill Walker for minutes . Plus, He can still be used in a later deal.
I wonder if we sign or trade for a backup PG before training camp?

Nah, they can deal them separately now. So two trades Wilkins for Scal and Tony and Giddens for Atkins, they can be dealt individually at any time they just cannot be used as combined salary till the 27th.
JR seems like kind of week return for taking on an extra 3.4 mil salary but they might get something out of TA as well.

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
Wilkins would give us another Pierce and Allen back-up to help us defend the LeBrons and Artests of the world. I would much rather give him those minutes than Giddens or Walker, for this year at least. He'd be a solid bench guy.
Atkins, one tour of duty here is enough..

I would be fine with Atkins for the min but no interest in paying him 3.5 mil if you can just cut his ass.

Can't blame the Cs if they want to save some money. I guess if they are already looking in this direction than the chances of making a trade to take on more salery, ie tony and scal for someone who can help, are probably low.

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
I think I'd rather keep Scal as 5th/6th big, TA as 4th wing, and JR's potential than move them for a questionable 4th wing. I was pining for Wilkins last year, but this seems just a bit steep and I don't know if he's that much of an upgrade over TA. He's not that big SF we'd be looking for, he's just as big as Daniels.
All in all, it's a bunch of players that would only be getting scarce minutes anyways, so it's not that bad considering the financial upside.

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
If it's a 3 for 1 trade (TA, Scal, Giddens for Wilkins) with Atkins cut, we end up with, what, 11 players under contract? We could sign Hudson and Swift and the only net loss would be Scalabrine's perimeter "shooting".

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
Damien Wilkins already peaked. Classic case of "grass is greener" here if Giddens is moved in a deal for Wilkins. By all means get rid of TA though.

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
I know we are all angry with Tony, but I would just as soon keep him as insurance for the rest of the year rather than trade him for someone we don't need. For all his faults, he is capable of putting good stretches together which can't be said for any of the other guys. Especially since he will only play if someone important gets hurt, which is incidentally when he seems to play best.

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
This actually makes sense. Williams is better at the 4, so we could pickup a 5 like Swift or Mihm. And we clearup the logjam at the 2/3 while acquiring another very good defender.
Rondo, House, ?Hudson
RA, Daniels, Wilkins
PP, Daniels, Walker
KG, Baby, Williams
Perks, Sheed, ?Mihm
We could sign Hudson and another big, and still have an available roster spot open for a midseason acquisition.

Re: Trade Rumor Bos/Min
Clearing roster spots is a good thing. Leave one for Camby at mid-season when he's bought out.
