Dan Dickau invited to camp

Post#1 » by Celtic Esquire » Fri Sep 11, 2009 12:53 am

The curly haired no-defense Dickau is back in town!!!

The Celtics have offered former guard Dan Dickau a training camp invitation, according to agent Mark Bartelstein.

Dickau, who turns 31 Sept. 16, played last season in Germany, averaging 17.6 points in just five games for the Brose Baskets.

I'm guessing he injures himself in training camp and doesn't make the team.

Yeah baby! That's what I'm talkin' about... we absolutely need a designated free throw shooter and ol' Dan fits the job to the T...

And besides... Heather can always join up with the cheer leading squad...

(Has Danny Ainge lost his mind?)

The best thing Dickau did as a Celtic was to help get Sebastian Telfair here... and that ain't saying much.

He's a talented player in some respects, but I can honestly say that I thought he was the worst perimeter defender that I've ever seen in the NBA. Appallingly bad. Opposing pg's went by him like he was a pesky kid.

If he could only hold his own on defence?

Offensively..He could certainly provide decent backup at the point... he has excellent ball handling and playmaking skills..and is a dead eye shooter for a point...

If he only could defend?.... At least as well as Steve Nash does...lets say?

He'd be great for 10-15 minutes per game!

Looks like Danny owed Bartelstein another favor. They have a great relationship and that is (hopefully)the only reason for this chump getting invited.

Will Ray Allen give up his number for Celtics legend Dan Dickau?

I have seen Dickau play last year in Bamberg, and the reason he played only 5 games was his defense, even though he was the best scorer for the team in every game. I seriously can not understand how someone so talented on the offensive side can suck so much on defense and how someone with non-existent defense is gettin a roster spot in the NBA. I wonder how he looks on D in the most athletic league in the world if he couldnt even stop the average PG in one of Europes lesser leagues.

Obvious answer, yes.

Really though, if Hudson isn't projected to make the team (I am rooting for him over most other PGs available), I don't think adding Dickau is as bad as some think. Yes, he's a god awful defender, but in an extremely limited role, in cases where we just need someone to bring up the ball when Rondo is out and Eddie can't deal with the pressure, he could be somewhat effective. He is just about the opposite of Rondo, no D, can shoot, makes for an OKAY complement.

If it came down to him or another player like Lue, I wouldn't be heartbroken either way, or if neither made the team. Basically, I won't slit my wrists if he was added... not saying much, but at least it's saying something.

what a joke. dickau either has photos of ainge or else danny is doing his agent a solid but this move is a complete waste of everyone's time. if he makes the team I will be genuinely disappointed

This article is much better:

I am glad to hear Boston has at least taken a look at Taylor, I would think he'd have no problem beating out Hudson and Lue. I can't even believe Dickau is in consideration. He looks like he's 12 and is horrendous. Everyone in this thread is hyping up his offense, what did he ever do when he was here other than play terrible and look overmatched in every single aspect of the game? I don't ever remember him scoring a lot of points or setting up team mates or having any above average skills whatsoever. I hated this guy, along with Danny's other two acquisitions that year, Olowotaser and Scal.
