I really like this kid and the more I think about it, the more disappointed I'll be if another PG gets contract over him. I say give this kid a chance to shine.

That's a nice story and good interview. Pretty confident kid.

I have a question. When a player is in a situation like Hudson is, without a contract, likely without any money in the bank, and trying to impress the brass, how do they get by? Do the Celtics put him up in an apartment? Give him some kind of stipend? Does his agent flip the bill for the short term? How does this work?

Lester Hudson, Uncle Red wants you!

Mike Taylor and Lue are better players right now but let's look at this strategically. Dan Dickau is gonzo, forget him!!!
I would bet that there will be better or comparable PGs available around the deadline than Taylor and Lue. I know, I know, the what if, if Rondo goes down who starts, House, Daniels??? That's only devistating in the playoffs against an elite team. Come feb we will address the PG situation if it needs addressing before we get to the playoffs. Again we need to see how the House-Daniels rotation shakes out with Daniels playing backup 1,2,3 and House at the 1,2.

Hudson could become a quality bench guy so let's take the strategic chance to let him show what he can do in practice. If he is a bust than we cut him and sign a bought out PG come deadline. We deserve to see what he can do. There's no risk in it for us. If he isn't the 15th spot we are left with what if's. Taylor and Lue are not going to play anyway unless Rondo is injured, maybe 5minutes in a few games but that is it. So why leave a shadow of a doubt. Marbury is out!!!!!! There is no smoking gun out there and Hudson seems like a Rondo-esque player which could be exactly what we need if Rondo goes down.

Lester is hungry and needs to prove something and in my experience the underestimated unproven players tend to thrive in these situations. I may be wrong but I don't think we have anything to lose by signing Hudson and allowing him the opportunity to develope.

Strategically I just don't see a risk for us. It's the 15th spot which is an insurance policy mostly and we know other players will become available if he blows.

I think all training camp invitees get per diem or a living stipend. It probably isn't much though.

One solution if the Cs thing Hudson has promise, but not cannot help this year: Have him play in Europe for a year and keep his rights. Let him play point at a high level of competition, and fill the 15th slot with a Lue or Taylor or Dickau. Then sign Hudson for 2010.

I said this before in another post I think a lot of us are going to like Hudson because we haven't seen him play. We hope that he turns into a nice player and a steal like Leon Powe and Ryan Gomes were. The kid should great but so did Marcus Banks when he first came here. I just can't wait until pre-season just to see these guys play vs. real NBA talent.

I like that idea too, Elrod, but I actually hope he just plain wins the spot. I have a good feeling about this guy--- not that he's going to be an all star or anything this year--- but that he may be able to come off the bench this year and be someone that opposing players have to keep an eye and a body on. He's 25 years old already. That may look like a negative to some, but he's a grown man so he might be ready to contribute sooner than some.

I'm thinking poor man's Vinnie Johnson or Bobby Jackson. That would be best case scenario-- a guy who can come off the bench and be disruptive for 10 minutes a game on both ends of the floor. But of course, he's not likely to see many minutes this year anyway.

i'd much rather him be in the D-league than europe. the game is different over there, and it doesn't play to hudson's strengths of being a physical player. also the rules about who gets PT are strange, it could be he goes there and mostly sits on the bench, the C's have no control over that. in the D-league he would be working with coaches who work with the C's. he would be able to get comfortable playing the point. although lets face it we don't need him to be rondo we just need him to bring the ball up and score.

He's going to stand out for his shooting, and if he picks up the defense quickly enough I think he'll have a good chance.

Even though the competition was weak in college, his highlights really stood out to me. The kid can flat out shoot, maybe if he gets the last spot hel get the chance to work on the other aspects of being a pro point gaurd.

Yeah I don't think Hudson is going to be pumped about going to Europe at 25 years old. He isn't the type of guy Euro teams want they want guys from big time college programs that have a profile.

He would probably prefer to go the D league route if he can't make the team.

At this point I would rather see this team move some of the guys were aren't likely to use (Scal, TA, Giddens) to free up some roster spots for Hudson and maybe an emergency guy like Lue or Dickau at the pg spot if he doesn't pan out.

he's ready to play now based on what I saw in limited preseason. the kid ( 25 y/o man) knows how to score and even better he knows how to finish at the rim. How many guys have we have come through here who could get to the rim but couldn't finish? He can shoot the 3, handle the ball and he has a solid frame and can defend. TO me he's afaster eddie house with a better handle and more explosive off the floor

Well we are going to gain a lot of info over pre-season. I like the pick. You're only going to get steals or junk at 58. He could very well be a steal. He sees his situation perfectly. Let his play determine what we have.

It is going to be a fun pre-season. With DA what else could we expect?
