Rasheed 6th man of the year?

Post#1 » by Rasheed36 » Thu Sep 17, 2009 3:50 am

What are Sheed's chances at the 6th man of the year award? Lets assume Sheed comes off the bench majority of the season, Celtics have the best record in the east, and that Sheed plays 70+ games averaging around 28 min 10 pts, 6 rb, and around a block and steal a game. Obviously he does things beyond stats. Like anchor the defense and 2nd unit. I believe if the Celtic's have the the best record in the league he's a lock for the award. And then it gets debatable if 1-2 teams have a better record.

I think Marquis has a better shot at that. Don't forget we have Glenn Davis as well, which will limit his mins. Quisy on has Walker and Giddens for competition for mins and I figure he'll play like 20-30 mins a game.

Sheed does more on the floor then Daniels. And Daniels is actually fighting House, Rondo Peirce, and Allen for minutes. You gotta take into account that KG is gonna be limited for a while and will need rest for the playoffs more then anybody. And Perk is usually in foul trouble. I honestly expect to see a lot of Sheed and Davis in the same line up because of those reasons.

Possible, though I reckon Terry wins the award again this year.

This season may be more like 2008 in that there are likely to be more blowouts,
so the 5th "Big" will probably see time as KG and Perk get breaks.

Even without blowouts, the Center Spot is probably going to be
around 24 minutes each for Perk and Sheed.

KG and Davis will carve up the PF minutes, as well, freezing out the 5th Big except for Blowouts.

If KG were healthy, it would be 31/17. If they ease him in, it's still like 24/24. So, if KG starts the season playing, Sheed's best is probably 24 minutes. And that's without giving time to the 5th Big.

I highly doubt he will. Terry, Manu, and Barbosa should all put up more volume stats for the voters. He has an outside chance, but I don't see either him or Daniels taking it.

He's got virtually no shot I'd say. Rasheed's impact is going to come in ways that can't be measured by stats: his defense. His stats are going to be very ordinary this year and the award will go to some scoring machine like Terry, Gordon, Barbosa or Manu.

Since we can't say definitively if Rasheed will even be the C's 6th man I'm hesitant to call him the 6th man of the year. There's a lot of guys that will gain consideration such as Odom, Terry, Ginobili, Morrow, Tyrus Thomas, Jamal Crawford, JR Smith, Iverson, Mike Beasley, Thaddeus Young, Barbosa, Rudy Fernandez, Tyreke Evans and Randy Foye. Some of the guys on this list are fringe starter/bench players (especially Iverson and Smith) but most of the players on this list play the wing position or the combo guard. For that reason (while also considering KG's health as a concern), I think that Wallace will start sometimes and Daniels will more often play the 6th man role.

All things considered, I'll say Ben Gordon is the 6th man this year.

The C's are too deep this year for any of its players to win the big individual accolades. One or all of Perk, KG and Rondo could make a push for defensive player of the year, though. Scal for most improved? Haha...no.

Nate Robinson, Trevor Ariza, Lamar Odom, Travis Outlaw, Randy Foye, Anthony Parker, Charlie Villanueva, Jeff Green, Marc Gasol is a few that I would think are very good canidates for the 6th man award.

As far as Terry, I cant see how he is considered a 6th man and I think the voting is a joke. I mean realistically he is a starter and he averages well over 33+ minutes per game. How is that considered a bench player or a 6th man? I understand he is coming off the bench but again 33+ min.

Remains to be seen how many games he'll start... I'm concerned that KG's knee might make Sheed uneligible for the discussed award.
